I woke up to Ryan’s movement and noticed him staring at me. I looked at him confused and sat up.

“What’s wrong?” I asked and he felt my forehead with his hand.

“Are you feeling alright?” he asked and I slowly nodded.

“Why?” I asked and he grabbed my hand mirror.

“I asked because you look pale.” he said and I looked at my own reflection. I touched my cheek and looked at him.

“I feel fine, babe.” I said and he looked at me like I was crazy.

“Baby, you look sick.” he said and I got up on my feet. I felt dizzy but I knew it was going to pass. I managed to walk out to where the bunks were then it got to the point where I could barely see. I tripped over my feet and fell, hitting my head on the edge of the wooden bottom right bunk.

I woke up and saw lights directly above me. My first thought was that I was dead and so was my baby. I noticed a shadow on the wall and I moved a little. I saw Matt talking to Ryan. Ryan looked over and gave me acknowledgement to the fact I was aware of my surroundings. Matt looked over and smiled at me.

“Where are the guys?” I asked, softly. Ryan walked over and sat beside me as he took my hand.

“They are practicing for their next concert. They’ll be here shortly after. I’m just glad that you’re alive.” Ryan said as he kissed my forehead.

“I’m glad you’re alive too. Yeah I know I should be practicing too but I was too worried about you.” Matt said and I half smiled. I loved these two with all my heart and they knew that I did.

“You guys know I love you, right?” I asked them and they nodded as they smiled at me. “Do I still have the baby?” I asked, hoping that I did.

“Yes baby, you’re still pregnant.” Ryan said, softly as Matt checked his phone. I closed my eyes and took a breath of relief.

“They guys are on their way over.” Matt said. A nurse came in and checked my IV line.

“Do you know your medical history?” the nurse asked. Ryan shook his head and so did Matt. “Not you guys. Claire, do you know your medical history?” the nurse asked.

“I don’t really. Why?” I asked and the nurse checked the clipboard.

“It looks like you have low blood pressure and the beginning of second stage of lung cancer.” the nurse said. I closed my eyes because I didn’t know that being a secondhand smoker would cause me to get lung cancer.

“I was around smokers all my life. I didn’t realize it’d lead to this.” I stated. Ryan touched my arm.

“It’s common in secondhand smokers but more common for someone who actually smokes.” the nurse said and Matt lowered his head. He knew just as well as I did that Barry and Scott smoked.

“Can it be cured?” I asked, scared as fuck. The nurse nodded and looked up at me.

“Yes it is but it will take a while with chemotherapy, surgery, and/or radiation. Whatever you choose, it will help cure the cancer.” the nurse said and I looked at Ryan as I decided in my mind.

“Would surgery cause me to lose my baby?” I asked and Ryan looked at me a little scared.

“It’s a possibility but chemotherapy and radiation can cause you to lose your unborn baby more than a surgery can.” the nurse said and I nodded.
