"Come on, little kitten," Katy said softy to Destiny. Destiny was practically asleep in the chair that had been put beside her 'mums' bed for her.
"No," groaned a very sleepy Destiny. "I can't leave Mummy..." Katy sighed miserably and began helping Destiny out of the chair. "No, I can get up by myself. I don't need you, I don't need anyone." Destiny said sleepily. Katy closed her eyes, trying to stop the tears from seeping out of her eye's again.
Once they were at the Premier Inn Destiny went straight to bed, only stopping to put her pyjamas on. Katy did the same, but didn't sleep. She couldn't. The pain that she had felt that day had been so immense that her brain just couldn't shut down. It was hours before sleep eventually came.
"Oh my God! Angela! Angela, come quick!" Katy called out to her sister.
"What is it? What's wrong?" Angela asked, running over to Katy.
"That was the British police, they need me to go over there right now!" Katy said.
"Why? What have you done now?" Cried Angela, horrified.
"No, nothing! It's nothing like that! It's Destiny! She was in a fire and her adopted parents are in hospital. They need me to go and get her! I've finally found her, Angela! I can finally get my baby back!"
"You're happy she was in a fire?" Angela teased, raison her eyebrows at Katy. Katy was about to answer, when she was interrupted.
"Mummy? Mummy, wake up!" A voice called out. Katy spun around wildly, trying to find the source of the voice.
"Angela, do you hear that?" Katy asked, but Angla was gone. "Angela? ANGELA?"
Katy sat bolt upright in a hot sweat. It had been a dream, only a dream. Well more of a memory, since most of it had actually happened. The only bit that hadn't happened was the end. Katy had no idea why someone had been saying 'mummy' in her dream.
"Mummy? Mummy wake up! Mummy! Mummy, please! Mu-mm-y" A voice sobbed miserably. "Please, Mummy. PLEASE!"
That's when Katy realized what had happened. It was Destiny. Destiny was crying out in her sleep. That's who had been yelling in her dream.
"Oh, Destiny..." She breathed quietly. "It's okay sweetheart, shhh it's okay." Then Katy got up to Destiny's little single bed. "Hey there, shhh everything's okay." She knew Destiny probably couldn't hear her, but it felt good to say it anyway.
Poor Katy really didn't know what she was supposed to do. She really wanted to be a mum to Destiny, but Destiny didn't seem to want her at all. But the pain in Destiny's voice was just too much for Katy to bear.
"Come on, honey. Calm down," Katy begged and bent down so she could hug Destiny. As she wrapped her arms around Destiny's fragile body the young girl began to stop crying - now she was just letting out a little whimper. Katy stared down at Destiny in amazement. Maybe she could be a good Mum after all.
Then Katy scooped Destiny up in her arms and carried her body over to her double bed.
"Wow, she's so light!" Katy thought in horror. "There's no way that's a healthy weight for a fifteen year old!"
Destiny carried on whimpering miserably in her sleep and calling out for her 'mummy'. Everytime Destiny said the word mummy, Katy felt like her heart was being ripped out of her chest She knew it wasn't aimed at her.
"Shhh, Destiny... Everything's going to be okay. Shhh," Katy repeated soothingly.
Eventually Destiny settled down and began to sleep more peacefully. Katy smiled to herself and lay down next to her daughter contentedly. As she pulled Destiny closer into her arms she accidentally brushed against one of Destiny's wrist. Destiny winced in her sleep and a little cry escaped her lips.
Katy frowned and pulled the covers off of Destiny. Then she tugged up the girls sleeve.
"Oh my God!" She gasped in horror, not believing her eyes.
