Katy stared at her daughter with a look of complete and utter horror. Destiny was curled up on the cold bathroom floor, rocking herself gently as she cried. There was only one word to describe the way she looked. Insane.
"Please stop, please stop, please stop..." She repeated over and over again under her breath. "I don't want to cut, I don't want to!"
Katy couldn't do anything, she was too scared to even move. Her heart began to beat faster and faster. She was going to have a panic attack!
"No, not now!" She thought desperately. "Later! Destiny needs you now!" Then she crouched down beside Destiny and stroked her matted hair. Destiny winced at her touch like Katy's hand was on fire.
"No, no, no! Please...don't hurt me..." She begged weakly. Katy wiped her eyes ruffly with the back for her hand as her tears began to fall faster.
"No, little kitten, I would never ever hurt you..." She promised soothingly. "Who's hurt you, baby?"
"P-p-p-p-pinkie prom-mise?" Destiny stuttered in between her heart wrenching sobs.
"Of course, pinkie promise." Katy agreed and caught hold to Destiny's pale, shaking, little pinkie with her own.
Then Katy scooped Destiny up in her arms and began to carry her towards the double bed. She ignored the blood that rubbed off of Destiny and onto her. There weren't any fresh cuts, but the old one's were open now, proving that Destiny had attacked them. It broke Katy's heart to see her daughter like this, but there was nothing she could do.
"P-p-put me down," sobbed Destiny. "Don't h-h-hurt me..."
"Shhh, honey... You're okay. I'm here, everything's gonna be fine. I'm here now," Katy soothed.
"No, no, just put me back down! P-p-please, Katy!" Destiny screamed, sobbing louder. Then she began struggling out of Katy's gentle grip.
Katy could sense that Destiny wasn't going to stay on the bed, even if she did get her to it without dropping her. Destiny was getting herself into a state as she tried to escape. This was definitely not good for her health right now.
Katy placed Destiny back down so she was laying on the bathroom floor again. Then she curled up behind her and cuddled her from behind.
"It's gonna be okay, you know." She whispered softly into Destiny's ear. But Destiny just shook her head weakly.
"Prove it..." She croaked out, her voice challenging. Katy didn't reply, knowing that Destiny was asking for something that she could never do.
The two lay there for what seemed like forever before Destiny eventually cried herself to sleep. Katy hadn't known what to do so she just stayed hugging Destiny and stroked the girls soft brown-blond hair. Tears didn't stop flowing down Katy's cheeks. She just couldn't stop them. Her perfect, beautiful daughter was a self harmer. How could she live with that?
Katy carried a shaking Destiny over to the double bed and tucked her in. Maybe she should have put Destiny in her own bed, she hadn't seemed overly happy to have woken up in Katy's bed last time, but at that moment Katy didn't care. She needed to hold Destiny, to feel her heart softly beating, just to prove that she was still there. Katy crawled under the covers and pressed Destiny's body against her own. Then she placed her hand of Destiny's back, letting it move up and down as she breathed. Katy closed her eyes, pressing her head against the back of her daughter's. She loved holding her in her arms, it was the only way she would ever truly know and believe that Destiny was safe.
"I'll protect you now," Katy whispered quietly to her sleeping daughter. "Even if the person I'm protecting you from is you..."
