Destiny lay curled up on Katy's bed. She felt completely alone and lost. Miss Chelsea had gone home now, needing to sort out some things before she left Destiny's school. Angela and Shannon were in bed. Katy was watching Pride and Prejudice on TV.
"Why?" Destiny whispered, her eyes raised to look at the ceiling. "Why are you doing this to me? Why did you take them away from me? Why me? I didn't do anything wrong, did I? I was born, I am getting in the way of Katy's life and ruining her tour..." Fear filled Destiny as she considered the fact that she was being punished for ruining Katy's life.
She got up and rushed out of the room, flinging herself at Katy. Katy was too astonished to do anything in response. Finally she wrapped her arms around Destiny and began rubbing her back.
"Hey, sweetie, what's wrong? Why are you crying?" She asked, letting out a gently chuckle.
"I'm sorry, Katy. I really am," Destiny whimpered.
"For what, honey? You haven't done anything," Katy soothed. She wondered if this was Destiny's mild bipolar disorder kicking in.
"I ruined your life, Katy. Can't you see it? I-if it s-wasn't for me y-you would be i-in Japan right n-now. Y-you would b-be happy..." Destiny sobbed, clutching Katy. "Do you think I don't know what everyone thinks? What your fans would say if they knew? 'Destiny, you're so selfish! Destiny, you took Katy away from us! You're ruining her relationship, she could have been happy forever'! I'm not stupid, Katy..."
"Nobody's saying any of that! I promise you they're not! If anyone was even thinking it they're wrong!" Katy cried determinedly. "You make me happiest. Not anything or anyone else. You're my baby, Destiny. I love you more than anything, no matter what! Okay?"
"Okay." Destiny mumbled back. Katy smiled and whipped away Destiny's tears with her thumb. "Unconditionally, right?" Destiny said, a smile slipping onto her pale face.
"Right," Katy laughed and held onto Destiny tightly. "Let's go to bed, sweetie."
"What about your movie?" Destiny asked, cuddling into Katy and turning to face the TV.
"Shall we finish it together?" Katy asked. Destiny nodded, so that's what they did. In the end they drifted off to sleep like that. Sadly, their peace didn't last long...
"Katy, get up! We have to move venues today!" Angela cried, shaking Katy.
"What time is it?" Katy mumbled, batting Angela away.
"It's five am, woman! Get moving!" Shannon yelled from the bathroom. Katy groaned and struggled to her feet. Angela scooped Destiny up and took her into the other room to get dressed.
"This tour will be the death of me, Shan!" Katy complained bitterly. "There's so much drama!"
"That's not the tour, Katy." Shannon laughed, leaning against her tired friend. "That's life!"
They were soon up, dresses and on the road to their next venue. They were all in Katy's hire car with her tour busses behind them.
"We're on the road again," an exhausted Destiny half-sung. "Oh it's good to be on the road again... Not!"
"Wow, look who's moody in the mornings." Katy teases, poking Destiny playfully while still trying to keep her eyes on the road.
"I don't know what you're laughing about, I get it from you!" Destiny retorted, causing Angela and Shannon to go into a peel of laughter.
"Do not!" Katy protested, scowling.
"I heard you this morning," Destiny said. "You really do whine in the mornings." Katy rolled her eyes, but a smile was still plastered on her face. 'I get it from you'. That's what Destiny had said. It thrilled Katy just thinking about it.
"Are we there yet?" A voice cried from the back of the car.
"Yeah, are we there yet?" Another voice joined in.
"If you two don't shut up, I will turn this car around!" Katy cried, frowning. Destiny and Shannon simply began giggling.
"Hey! Hey, Katy?" Destiny said after a while.
"Yeah, sweetie?" Katy replied, glancing back at Destiny in the rearview mirror.
"Are we there yet?" Destiny asked, making her voice sound young and cute.
"I give up!" Katy groaned in despair. "It's like having two five year olds back there, and a moody teenager who won't get of her phone! Angela, that means you!" Katy added, elbowing Angela - who protested and glared at Katy. Angela had swapped seats with Destiny so that it would be easier to give Katy directions, as the built in GPS wasn't working very well.
"How do you put up with mum-mode Katy?" Shannon asked Destiny, knowing it would annoy Katy. "She's so bossy!"
"I am not!" Katy cried. "No sweets for you."
"I bet you're glad you don't have kids now," Destiny chuckled. Suddenly she realized what she said and put both hands over her mouth. An awkward silence fell om the car, while Katy tried to fight back tears. "I mean, kids are hard work. I should know... You just skipped straight to teenager, right? The best bit. Lucky you," Destiny teased. She was desperate to cover up what she said. She couldn't see what Katy's reaction was as she had sunglasses on.
"Teenagers are more fun anyway," she replied weekly. "Still, it's a shame I had to skip a few steps..." A small smile crept back onto Katy's face. "Did Destiny just call herself the best bit?" She thought, secretly thrilled. "That must be progress!"
Soon Destiny and Shannon were back to annoying Katy about the length of the drive, while Katy just played along. Nothing could ruin Destiny not putting herself down for one, nothing! They were like one big happy family. But would the rest of the family agree?
