Part 5: Summertime

The next morning when I woke up I posted my video. Just as I was about to shut my laptop down and go take a shower, something caught my eye.

50,000 subscribers.

And comments. Thousands of comments.
"You're amazing!"
"You inspire me so much! I love you!"
"You give me confidence to be myself."

One comment stood out to me more than anything. Not because of how long it was or because it was an amazingly positive comment. But because it came straight from the heart.

"Hi Rose. My name is Ashley. I don't think you'll ever see this comment but I just wanted to day a few things. I've been going through some very tough things recently. Bullying, losing friends, fitting in with social circles among other things. No matter what happened you were always there for me. Sitting at home and watching your videos I always felt better afterwards. Even though you're on the other side of the screen, when I watch your videos it feels like you're sitting next to me trying to cheer me up. I really thank you for that."

I sat there with tears in my eyes. It wasn't 5 or 6 years before that I'd been going through the same thing. As I wiped my eyes an idea came to mind. I could do a video about these things. Grabbing a sticky note I wrote the idea down and put it on the screen. Silently I stared at her comment and said thank you. I will show you that you aren't alone and there's always something better to look forward to.

After that I was wide awake. I got ready and grabbed some jean shorts, a gray muscle tank and a black sports bra. Tonight I was going to a huge party that the town was holding. I was ready to have some fun with my friends. Before I left to go hang out Alicia's house, I stared at my mask I wore in most of my videos debating whether or not I should take it. What the heck, why not. I thought as I tucked it in my back pocket.

A few hours later, Alicia, Lola, a few other friends and I were all at the concert. It was set in a park next to a church and lake/marsh. With a huge tent and food vendors set up across from a stage and field. It was about 8 o'clock so people were starting to come in for fireworks. Currently a band was playing a cover of Señorita by jt and Lola and I were dancing and having fun to the song. When it ended, a guy got up on stage.

"How's everyone tonight!" He said receiving hollars and hoots from the crowd. "I can't hear you..." More yells, shouts and whistles. "That's it. Now I've got a few special announcements and one special message...." I completely zoned out. I went over to a tow of trees and sat down. Looking at my phone I sighed, is this really going to work? Am I going to be able to do this? Stay hidden and still carry on with my normal life? My thoughts were interrupted when Lola rushed over to me.

"Come on get up!" She jumped up and down.

"Ok, ok for what?"

"The special message and announcement!" She said as she rushed back over toward our group of friends.

"And now we have a special message coming to you straight from Los Angeles." The announcer said as he backed off of stage and the lights went dark. Images of fans meeting the dolan twins started showing up and it finally clicked in my head. They're announcing the winner of the 4OU tickets. Everyone was quiet for a moment as the screen went dark and then the dolan twins showed up. Every teenage girl there erupted with screams. Lola just jumped up and down as I covered my ears.

"Hey guys, we're back. We hope that everyone is having a great summer and staying cool." Grayson said.

"But we're here to deliver a special message to you guys. Right Gray." Ethan said.

"That's right E. As many of you know Ethan and I are on tour right now. Thousands of fans entered the contest to win meet and greet passes as well as front row seats at one of our shows." Grayson explained.

As they spoke I looked around at everyone in the park. Families, groups of friends and couples. All enjoying each others company. This will always be home. I thought.

"We're happy to announce that we have chosen a winner. Based completely on a random selection." Ethan said.

"This winner lives in your town and at this party as we speak." Grayson said. Everyone looked around and whispered amongst themselves.

"The winner is...." Ethan started.

"Veronica Love!" They said at the same time.

My jaw dropped. Holy porcupines! I won!

"Where are you Veronica Love?" The announcer said as he stepped put onto the stage and the lights came on.

"Go!" Lola said as she pushed me toward the stage.

"Um, right here." I said as I made my way toward the stage... And massive crowd of girls who were glaring at me. I climbed the stairs on the side of the stage. The twins were still on the gigantic screen above me.

"Let's give it up for Veronica Love!" The announcer said. Cheers erupted from the crowd. "Before we tell you more, could you tell us what your thoughts are right now?"

"Well," I said as I stared out into the crowd. "I didn't think I'd win. Also what show am I going to?"

Chuckling on the screen, the twins both smirked, "You get to chose which show you want to go too."

"Ok" I said meekly.

Both laughing again, Ethan said, "Well, thank you to all who entered. We can't wait to hear from you and meet you."

"Peace," they said at the same time as the video cut out.

I stood there shocked as the announcer closed put the special announcements by saying, "Ok guys that was all of our special announcements. Enjoy the food, refreshments, and music. Have a good night everyone."

I can't believe that just happened.

Things were only getting started.
