Part 25: Pranked

Veronica's p.o.v.

I woke up to a bucket of cold water being dumped on my head. As I sat up gasping for air, two people ran out of my room laughing their butts off. Now soaked, I swung my legs over the side of the bed and walked out into the hallway. As I stepped out I was greeted with a camera.

"We got you good!" Grayson shouted enthusiastically as he filmed my reaction.

"Yeah we did!" Lola shouted as she high five him.

I stood there pretty much soaked to the bone, fuming. They must've figured I was going to explode because as I started after them, they turned and ran into the kitchen. Ethan was at the end of the hallway. Gray and Lola ran past him and just as I was about to reach for Lola's arm, Ethan caught me by the waist and stopped me.

"You two are so going to get it!" I said as I struggled to break free from Ethan's tight grip on my waist, "Let me go Ethan!" He only held me tighter against his toned chest.

"As much as I'd love to see you dish out your revenge on them," he said as he set his drink down and held me with both arms, "It would ruin the stuff we're going to do today."

That made me stop. I turned and looked over my shoulder at him. "Stuff?"

"Yeah, we're going to go and do a few things today," he wiggled his eyebrows at me. We sat there for a few seconds just looking at each other, Ethan's eyes sparkling with mischief.

"Thanks for stalling Ethan," Gray said as he went to leave with Lola, "We're going to get a head start; see you later." With that he was gone.

After the door shut, Ethan set me down. "You helped them!" I stomped away from Ethan, to the counter, and glared at him.

He walked over and stood extremely close to me. "Yeah, I was stalling so they could get away." His face was inches from mine and I could feel his hot breath blow across my face. "It wasn't that bad though." Suddenly I could feel my face start to get warm as he was standing so close in a cut off tank top.

I wiggled my way out of his arms and went back toward my bedroom, "Ok well I'm going to go get ready. You make yourself at home until I'm finished." I went straight to the bathroom and shut the door before he had a chance to respond. I turned the shower on and let it run as I quietly slipped out of the bathroom to grab my phone on my nightstand. I closed the door again and dialed my mom's phone number. She licked up on the third ring.

"Sweetheart! It's so good to hear from you! How is my baby girl? And my la daughter?"

I chuckled slightly. "We're good mom. I actually just woke up."

"Is that a shower running in the background? I hope you aren't in a bathroom right now."

"I am. I'm talking to you in hear because I have company and I don't want them to know about my other me."

"Oh ok. How has that been? Do you have any events scheduled?"

"Yes, actually. Lola and I got invited to The Teen Choice Awards. We're going to be on tv!"

"That's amazing! Dad, your siblings and I will have to watch it! I think I'll let you go take and get ready for your day now, sweetie. Tell Lola we all said hi and have her call her parents later."

"I will mom. I love you."

"I love you too Veronica."

I ended the call, put my phone back on my nightstand and then sat on the edge of the tub. The steam was finally fogging up the bathroom and I felt myself relax. It was just like home when I'd steam up the bathroom and almost be late for school. I undressed and stepped into the hot water, letting it run over every muscle and relax them. The heat and water lulled me into a relaxed state as I got ready for the day.

Ethan's p.o.v.

Veronica was fuming as I held her back from attacking Grayson and Lola.

"You to are going to get it!" Veronica shouted as she tried to wiggle out of my grasp. "Let me go Ethan!" She almost got away but I just held her tighter. She was pretty strong but I was stronger.

"As much as I'd love to see you dish out your revenge on them," I said setting my cup down and wrapping my other arm around her waist, "It would ruin the stuff we're going to do today."

She looked at me over her shoulder and, with an eyebrow raised, asked, "Stuff?"

"Yeah, we're going to go and do a few things today," I said wiggling my eyebrows at her. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Lola and Grayson slip out the door. I ignored them, though, because Veronica's eyes sparkled as she starred at me.

"Thanks for stalling Ethan," Grayson said, interrupting our attention, "We're going to get a head start; see you later." With that he shut the door and left us alone.

I let go of Veronica and she walked over to the counter, leaned against it and crossed her arms. "You helped them!" She said pouting.

Realizing that we were alone, I knew I had a chance to tell her how I felt. I walked over to Veronica and put my hands on the counter on either side of her. With my face inches from hers,  I said, "Yeah, I was stalling so they could get away." Her face began to turn red. "It wasn't that bad though," I said as I glanced down at her lips.

She must've noticed because she squirmed her way out from in between my arms. "Ok well I'm going to go get ready. You make yourself at home until I'm finished," she said as she walked back towards her bedroom. She shut the door and I was left standing in the kitchen alone.

I sighed and sat down at the kitchen table. "Stupid, stupid, why'd you do that Ethan?" I said out loud as I leaned the chair back against the wall. I pulled out my phone and went onto YouTube. Rose posted a video a few days ago but I couldn't wait for another. She had me hung up on her with her laugh and personality. With my fingers over the keyboard, I hesitated. Should I send her a message? Would it seem weird since I haven't said anything for a little bit? "Just do it Ethan."

Grant 🏈: Hi

There was no response. I waited for a few minutes before I put my phone away and decided to forget about it. It was quiet except for the shower water running as I sat there thinking. Why were those girls so intent on 'making Veronica pay'? They didn't seem to be from somewhere close; like they just moved here or came for a vacation. Before my thoughts just about consumed me, the silence in the apartment was broken.

Veronica started singing.
