"Linda Bradshaw!" I yelled to the nurse who was sitting at her desk. I still had tears running down my face, surely looking a tad crazy to her right now.
"Please!" I said in between sobs, I had gotten control of myself on the ride over here but running into the hospital made me cry all over again, "Please my mom was shot." I broke down in front of her, completely unaware of the few people in the waiting room staring at me.
Lin pulled me into his body and spoke for me, "We are looking for a Linda Bradshaw. She would have come in about an hour ago. Lena here is her daughter, we were told to come here." A sad voice came from the usually peppy Lin.
She nodded and went through the files, "She's in room 156, she just got out of surgery about 15 minutes ago."
"Surgery?" I looked up through my bloodshot eyes.
She gave me a sad look and nodded, "She's coming out of anesthesia now. Down the hall to the right." She motioned forward.
Lin thanked her and he pulled me along with him, "Lena it'll be okay. She'll be okay." He kept repeating to me as we tried to find her room. This couldn't be happening could it?
Lin knocked on the door and David swiftly answered, "Oh my sweet thing." He said as he saw the state I was in. He thanked Lin and led me to my unconscious mother.
I started silently crying as I sat down next to her, "Mommy please wake up." I said softly as I grabbed her hand and cried into my chest, "Please don't leave me." I said again, even softer this time.
I sat there crying into my chest and holding my moms cold hand. The doctor came in and noticed the two new visitors in the room, "Oh hello, I'm Dr. Lipstraw." He shook Lin's hand. His face softened when he looked at me.
"Please tell me she's going to be okay." I looked down and cried some more, I wasn't even aware that the body could hold as much liquid that I had cried out.
"Is she apart of your immediate family?"
I nodded, "She's my mom."
"Okay." He opened the chart and went over to check on her vitals, "She's very lucky. The bullet entered just above her left hip and lodged itself just shy of her kidney. We extracted the bullet and there were no signs of internal bleeding. However, there can always be a risk for this so we will keep a close eye on her condition and vitals. Surgery went very well, we finished in less than 45 minutes. Right now her vitals look wonderful, she should be waking up anytime within the next hour or so."
I nodded my head and covered my face with my hands and said, "Thank you God." I few stray tears spilled, "Thank you Doctor." I said and turned my attention back to my mom.
"Nurses will be in periodically to check in. I'll be back shortly as well."
Both David and Lin thanked him. We all sat there waiting. We waited for what felt like hours before she started to stir.
"Mom?" I asked as she fluttered her eyelashes open.
"Lena?" She asked looking confused.
David came over and explained her situation. A wash of realization must have washed over her face as she remembered what happened two hours previously.
"Oh hell." Was all she said and everybody in the room let out a much needed laugh, "That wasn't fun." She smiled at me and brushed my hair out my face.
"I was so scared momma." I let another tear fall.
She wiped the tear away and pulled me closer to her. I let me head fall into her side, "Shh Lena. I'm okay. I would never leave you."
