~ 30 Weeks Pregnant ~
Serrina
I had parked my car down the street from Kylee's place because I was terrified. I could see the front of the house from where I parked the car and all 3 of my kids were talking in the backseat, excitedly.
"So," I said and turned around so I could see all of my children. I kept my hands on my belly, holding it as my only link to Justin right now, "You guys have to behave, okay?" I bit my lip as they all nodded, "This is important to me so please be on your absolute best behaviour."
"Yes mommy," Amelia was already unbuckled from her seat and trying to stand up in the car, "Can we go meet them now?"
I took a deep breath and then nodded, listening as my kids unbuckled and got out of the car. They were talking full of excitement and giggles. I was the last person out of the vehicle and I closed my door slowly. I was like a mother duck with all of my ducklings following as we walked up and crossed the street. When we reached the end of the driveway my feet froze and I couldn't move.
Braxton touched my arm and looked up at me, "You okay, mom?"
I swallowed the lump that was forming in my throat and blew out a long, deep breath before glancing down at him and nodding, "Just a little nervous." I felt Jasper kicking away in my belly, "I'll be okay."
Before I even had to walk I heard the front door slam shut and the padding of feet running towards us. When I looked up I saw the semi familiar face with a cute new bob. Her hair was tied half up and her blue eyes were shimmering, the smile plastered on her face made my heart swell a million times larger.
"Hey! Did you have trouble finding the place?" Kylee was glowing in excitement and when she saw the kids she squealed and bent her knees so she was at their level, "Hey guys! Im Kylee, your..." She looked between them for a few seconds then up at me, a little lost at what her relationship with my kids would be considered.
"This is my half sister." I took a long step towards her and put my hand on her shoulder, smiling at my kids, "That makes her your Aunt." Amelia looked confused but the twins were both smiling as they shook hands and introduced themselves to her. I could see the excitement bubbling between them as they tiled over each other.
"Kylee?" I cut in and watched as all eyes fell on me and their voices went silent, "Why don't we go inside?"
Her eyes went wide and it was as if she just noticed that we were still in the driveway, "Oh," Then she stood up straight and smiled and me, "Of course. Come on in" Then she took off down the driveway. Krystal and Braxton quickly followed her and Amelia sheepishly took my hand, waiting for me to lead the way. My feet felt heavy but I managed to follow the excited kids up to the porch and into the front door.
As soon as we were inside a woman appeared in another archway and was staring at us with a small smile, "You must be Serrina." Her smile made the corners of her eyes wrinkle and she immediately reminded me of my mother, "I'm Naomi. Im Nick's wife." When she saw my confusion she stammered and blinked a few times before shaking her head a little and smiling, "I'm married to your dad."
"Oh," I nodded. Obviously he had children but I hadn't thought about facing somebody that was still married to my dad. I had hoped, deep down, that he had left her like he had left my mom, "I'm Serrina, but I'm sure you know that." Then I looked over at my kids and smiled, "These are my kids. Braxton, Krystal, Amelia," I then placed my hands on my stomach and smiled, "And Jasper."
She was smiling big and her smile made me feel warm inside. She was incredibly maternal feeling, "Nice to meet you all. Please come in." We all took off our shoes and followed her into a room that was obviously the kitchen and dining room. On the far end of the room was another archway that I could hear TV coming from.
Another young girl was sitting at the table. She was older that Kylee and she was ridiculously pretty, "This is my oldest, Logan. Logan, this is Serrina and her children."
She was staring at me with a mean girl look and she pulled her knees to her chest, "You're a little young to have kids that old."
"Logan!" Naomi snapped and shot her daughter a glare. Kylee was standing beside me and gave her sister a disgusted look.
I bit my lip, "That okay. Im used to it." I placed my hand on Braxtons head and messed up his hair, "I was 16 when I had the twins. 21 with Amelia." I shrugged, "I was young but I wouldn't do it any different."
She gave me a sideways glance and then shrugged, "Okay." Then her target shifted from me to her mother, "When is dad gonna be home? I need the car."
Suddenly, my attention was on Naomi, anticipating her answer, "He went to get milk." Then there was a car alarm beeping outside, "Thats probably him now. Why don't you go see if he needs help?" Logan must have left the room because when I looked around she was gone.
I heard the front door open and my stomach instantly filled with butterflies. In the next room I could hear bags shuffling and the clattering of shoes hitting the floor. After a few seconds a man appeared in the doorway. He was a tall but thin guy with thin hair and bright blue eyes hidden behind thick glasses and dark stubble. He was wearing old blue jeans and a red jacket. When he saw me he froze and we just stared at each other.
I had spent my whole life imagining what my dad would look like and he had never looked like this, but now, I couldn't have seen him any differently. We didn't look much alike but our eyes were almost identical and we had the same narrow chin.
"Dad," Kylee's voice broke the silence that had settled in the room. I noticed her holding one of my hands in a lovingly supportive way, "This is Serrina."
Amelia squeezed my other hand. She was probably looking up at me but I couldn't break my gaze with my father, "Mommy, is that him?"
After a few seconds of staring I pulled my gaze off of him and looked between my three kids, "Yeah." Krystal and Braxton were looking between us in amazement, "This is your grandpa."
After a few seconds of silence he bent down to put the milk on the floor. Naomi was beside him and held his now empty hand, "You look just like your mom."
I laughed and felt tears falling from my eyes, "She always said I looked like you." I chuckled and pulled my hand from Kylee to wipe my tears. I stayed silent for a few more seconds before I shook my head, "Can I hug you?" He hesitated but then nodded. As we let go of everybody else and hugged each other, I felt an overwhelming sense of love rush over me and I began sobbing.
"I'm so sorry." He whispered to me and then took a step back, but not letting me get too far, "I am so sorry for not staying when you were a baby." Then he sighed and looked me up and down, "But your mom seems to have done a good job. How is she?"
I wasn't sobbing anymore and I reached back down to hold Amelias hand again, "Why don't we sit down?" I mumbled and saw a smile grow on his wrinkled cheeks, "We have a lot to catch up on."
He nodded and held his arm out, leading me to the living room, "After you."
"Thanks." I could have called him dad but it was too early for that. Instead, I saved it for another time, because I knew we were in each other life now, hopefully for a long long time.
