It’s been a few days since that night and I still felt like I was walking on top of the clouds every single day. Everyone at work even commented on my complete change of attitude when I went back that Monday. It wasn’t that I was ever unpleasant. Everyone just kept talking about how I just seemed genuinely happy. When I smiled it was never forced anymore and I just felt amazing all the time.

With the exception of when I was at work, Jess and I were hardly ever apart. We basically spent all our time indoors just doing whatever we felt like at the moment. It was a bit difficult to go out all things considering but I didn’t mind in the slightest. It sounds a bit cheesy but I was happy as long as I was with her no matter what we were doing.

Today I had my usual weekly twelve hour shift which I was happy to have but I was a bit bummed that I couldn’t spent a bunch of time with Jess today. I guess that was all right though seeing as I’m surprised she hasn’t gotten sick of me yet. I had the day off tomorrow anyway.

I was currently waiting outside the restaurant for Jess to pick me up. We were staying at hers tonight and she mentioned earlier that she had something important to talk to me about. She sounded a bit nervous when I talked to her on the phone during my break so I was anxious to find out what was up.

I wasn’t waiting long before I saw Jess’s car pull up on the street next to me. I quickly ran over to the passenger side and jumped in, wanting nothing more than to see her smiling face after being without her all day.

“Hey, Jess,” I greeted her as I leant over to kiss her.

“Hey, babe. How was work?” she asked cheerily.

“Good. I’m tired but I can’t complain,” I answered as we set off for her house.

“So what did you do all day?” I asked her when we got in.

“I visited my parents today. I just got back a few hours ago and then I made dinner for us,” she said, smiling.

“You didn’t have to wait on me to eat. Ten o’clock is a bit late for dinner,” I laughed.

“It’s fine. My mum cooked while I was over.”

We sat at our usual spot at the island in the kitchen while we ate together. I didn’t realize how hungry I actually was until I started eating. We ate mostly in silence until I remembered what Jess mentioned earlier today.

“What did you need to talk to me about?” I asked as I finished my plate.

“Oh right. Well, erm. I told my parents about us obviously and well… They kind of want to meet you,” she said cautiously.

“Okay? Why do you seem so nervous about it?” I wasn’t bothered at all about meeting her parents. Jess talked about her family a lot and I knew they were important to her. I knew I’d have to meet them at some point.

“Uh, I kinda told them we would come over tomorrow?” she said sheepishly.

Oh. Well that was a hell of a warning.

“I see.”

“Are you mad?”

“Why would I be mad?” I asked her. Sure, I would have liked more of a warning since meeting Jess’s parents is a huge deal to me. I never worried about meeting girlfriends’ parents before but Jess was special. I wanted everything to go perfectly. I wanted her to know that I was serious about her and if that meant meeting her parents tomorrow then so be it.

“Well I agreed to it without talking to you first. I didn’t even know if you wanted to meet my parents or if it was too early and—“

I walked over to her and cut her off with a kiss. I knew if I didn’t stop her she’d continue to ramble when in reality she had no reason to worry. I felt her relax immediately under my touch and I pulled away slowly.
