“I’m really proud of you, you know,” I said later on that night.
Jess and I were lazing on the couch together, watching whatever was on TV. It was mostly her just flicking through the channels, watching half of something then changing it over. It normally annoyed me but I wasn’t bothered tonight. Jess was laying on the couch, her legs rested across my lap. It was going on two in the morning and I was absolutely exhausted. However, Jess has been having muscle spasms in her bad leg ever since we got back and she’s been unable to sleep since. So I’ve sat here for hours massaging her leg as the nurse recommended earlier.
“For what? Falling down?” she smirked. I scoffed at that.
“No, for being as strong as you have been the last few months,” I told her. “I know you wanted to give up a lot but I’m glad you’ve stuck with it.”
“Yeah, me too,” she said. “Although, this hurts like hell. I hope it doesn’t do this for a long time.”
“Did the painkillers not do anything for it earlier?” I asked. I could only imagine how much it hurt. I could honestly almost feel the muscles twitching under my hands.
“Yeah, I just don’t like taking them so often,” she said as she turned the channel once again.
“Okay, well why don’t we get you one and head to bed? You’re going to drive me insane with the constant channel flipping,” I laughed. She stuck her tongue out at me childishly but sat up anyway. The TV was turned off and I wrapped my arm around Jess’s waist as I helped her to the stairs. She was still unable to really use her leg since there was so much muscular atrophy but I knew it wouldn’t be long before she could really start walking on her own.
It took about ten minutes for us to get up the stairs and after that Jess just about threw herself on the bed in exhaustion. I walked into the bathroom and grabbed one of Jess’s pain pills and got her an oversized shirt to sleep in on the way back over to her.
“So what are your plans for tomorrow?” I asked as I slipped into my own t-shirt. Jess was already underneath the blankets, scrolling through her phone some.
“I don’t know. Probably cuddling you and maybe working on that book I’m supposed to be writing,” she said. I crawled under the blanket and pulled Jess into me so that her back was right up against my front.
“I forgot about that.” Jess’s management couldn’t exactly make her work in the condition she’s been in the past couple months so they decided to give her an all clear to start on a book in the meantime. I knew she was really excited about it so I was glad she had something work-related to put her mind to in her downtime. I raised up slightly so that I could prop my chin above her shoulder, my cheek pressed against hers.
I watched as Jess scrolled through what looked like her Twitter. There were a bunch of tweets from her fans wishing her well and all that. I thought it was sweet, especially since it’s been going on ever since we flew home and the media found out.
“I just realized I haven’t posted on Instagram since before we went to your parents’ place,” Jess said suddenly as she replied to one of the tweets.
“Wow, I’m surprised your fans haven’t revolted by now,” I joked.
“Yeah, yeah. Here, smile,” she said, holding the camera outwards. I watched as she typed the caption. ‘Got some amazing news today. I’ll be back before you all know it. In the meantime I’m going to stay cuddled up with this gorgeous girl.’
“You better be careful about those captions. Some of those fangirls are probably out for my blood,” I said, attempting to sound serious but failing miserably.
