Tris' POV
My eyes burn slightly and my head aches badly. I try to sit up but I am slow to do so. Peter is in my gaze, but his eyes are angered and wide with fear.
At that moment, I knew I had done something terribly wrong.
"Tris! You're such a fool!" Peter is whispering loudly now and his voice is stricken with terror. "We have to get out of here right now!" These are his last words before he then gives me one last. He then turns and runs out of the building and into the night mist, and in a flash of my mind he is gone.
P-Peter...!
"P-Peter! Wait! Please!" I wanted to yell loudly for him to come back and help me, but I knew he was already gone, and raising my voice would just help increase the danger I was already in.
I had to get out of here though.
I pull myself to my feet as fast as I can, when suddenly a tingling, warning-like sensation begins throbbing at the back of my neck and trails down my spine.
For a moment I think I just may have injured my neck or something, when suddenly I recall my perks.
Spine-Chill.
My eyes widen and I can feel my heart-rate increase. I was getting the sense of Spine-Chill. That means Eric was coming in my direction!
I force myself to move my feet and hurriedly I spot an escape route. There was an opening within one of the walls of the building, just big enough for me to vault over and out onto the other side where I could run and get as far away from this building as possible. But would it be too late?
I rush for the opening in the wall and swiftly vault and propel myself with my hands over the wall and out onto the other side. My neck is still throbbing and buzzing at me though, so I knew Eric was nearby for sure now.
I hurriedly take off next and run a few meters before I get to a large rock. Once I'm well behind the rock, I crouch down low to where I am in a good hiding position and well out of sight.
Tall grasses tickle my chin and chest all around me, but I ignore this and stay perfectly still.
After a few moments of just catching my breath next, the buzzing-like warning sensation of my Spine-Chill perk finally ceases.
I am silently panting out of fear and I can't help but wonder whether I enjoyed the fact that Spine-Chill was no longer tingling at me, or not.
Finally I suddenly hear footsteps distantly nearby. It was coming from within the abandoned tower I had just left. I stiffen.
Eric.
Just out of my stubborn curiosity I slowly begin shifting myself so that I might be able to see if I could spot Eric.
I very carefully shift until I am able to peek out behind my rock back at the tower... But I do not see Eric.
My heart is pounding now and I am on edge. Was he tracking me like Peter said he could do? What are the perks that Eric had? What if he knows where I am but is just playing with me?
With this thought, I suddenly can't help but glance over my shoulder, and suddenly, just out of the corner of my eye, I spot a hint of movement.
My eyes focus on a tall, brawny figure with his head held high and his shoulders relaxed back just a few dozen of meters off in the opposite direction I had been looking in. It was Him.
Eric had obviously searched the tower and was now scoping the nearby lands for 'me' outside the tower. It was smart of me to have looked over my shoulder... because if I hadn't, he would have probably seen me for sure.
I shift myself slowly now so that I am behind the rock more against his point of view. It didn't help that I had blonde hair and that it reflected the moonlight above.
His back was turned to me at the moment though, at which I was ever so grateful for, but my heart was also pounding madly, and I could feel my hands beginning to shake from beneath me.
He was just standing there... menacingly.
What would he possibly do if he caught someone?
Peter said he would hang us... But I didn't understand why. Why was Eric hunting us?
Aside from my questions about Eric, this thought suddenly returned my mind back onto Peter himself. He had totally abandoned me when I had accidently blown up the generator.
I had begun to think that perhaps Peter had changed his ways towards me and my friends... But looks like I was wrong.
Suddenly though, I watch as Eric slowly turns his head to the left now, before he then starts off at a fast pace in a different direction. His face held a stuck-up, haughty grin as he walked and his strides were long and sturdy like how Tobias' were.
I watched as he strutted around some of the farming equipment, some trees, and then some rocks, that seemed rather similar to my own rock that I was hiding behind.
He was searching for someone, and I needed to get out of this situation quickly before he comes to look around my area.
I am just about to finally make a move to get out of this rather awful hiding place, when suddenly a scream cuts through the night air. The scream is distant, and is also feminine.
I can't help but gasp.
