Beep Beep Beep. My eyes fluttered open as the constant beeping echoed in my exhausted head. My mouth was too dry to speak, though I tried. It hurt to move even a centimeter. As I looked around the room my eyes landed on two figures sleeping in chairs against the wall.
My sister slept peacefully, dreaming sweetly based on the smile on her face.
The other figure did not look as sirene. Jack looked stressed and terrified even in his slumber. Worry lines patterned his forehead as he turned and shifted in the chair. He looked haunted by everything.
I waited silently for someone to notice I was awake. For someone to explain to me what was going on. I waited for what felt like hours. Then a familiar blonde pranced into the room.
"Elsie you're okay!" Rapunzel shrieked happily waking up the others. Jack leapt out of the chair and to my bedside, his cold fingers wrapping my hand in a different kind of warmth.
"HI." I croaked. Jack said nothing but instead leaned in and pressed his lips against mine.
"Don't ever scare me like that again." He whispered into my hair. I mumbled water and Jack ran to go get me some.
"What happened?" I muttered.
"There was a rebel attack. You were shot." Rapunzel started. Jack came back into the room with a glass in one hand and a pitcher of water in the other. He poured me a glass and handed it to me. I drank it like my life depended on it.
"How many others?" I asked after I could speak normally.
"Too many. 11 guards 13 guests dead. Even more injured." She explained.
"Anyone I know?" It was probably a dumb question but I needed to know.
"Elsie. Papa is dead." Anna spoke a tear rolling down her cheek. Though I tried I couldn't find it in myself to be sad.
"Meridas dad was hit pretty bad but he recovered quickly."
"What about Merida?" I asked noticing her absence with great fear.
"She's okay. Hit her head but nothing major. She's with Hiccup who is in critical condition. She hasn't left his side since it happened." I nodded in understanding knowing how she must feel.
"Wait who won the selection?" I asked my eyes making their way to Jack's deep blue orbs.
"How do you not know?" He sighed with a light chuckle though he was clearly still distressed.
"Elsa he hasn't left your side since the attack. It's been two weeks." Rapunzel giggled. My eyes widened in realization.
"And now I can finally do this." I turned to Jack who was now down on one knee a ring held delicately between his fingers. "Elsa Arendelle will you marry me?"
"Of course." I smiled. He slipped the ring onto my finger and I squeezed his hand.
"I love you Jack." It was the first time I had ever said it but seeing him with the ring, on one knee, asking to spend the rest of our lives together, I knew the moment couldn't be more right."I love you too."
