I hang out with Sterek and Andy before I had to go home. My parents wanted me before eight o'clock. I thought it was a little childish for them to know where I was but Sterek called it "protecting their little boy". It was embarrassing as hell. I held onto the leash as we walked out of Andy's house. I turned around and smiled and the brown haired teen in front of me.
"I want to thank you and Andy for giving me a dog," I said.
Griffin tucked on his leash forward, making me fall on Sterek's chest. I looked up to see Sterek starting down at me. I blushed and pulled away quickly, fixing myself.
"I'm sorry, Griffin pulled the leash and-"
"it's fine. I think Griffin was trying to give us a hint," Sterek smirked. I looked at Griffin who was sitting down on the floor with his mouth opened. I chuckled and looked back at Sterek.
"What do you think he was trying to do?" I asked.
Sterek shrugged innocently before grabbing the back of my neck and pulling me into a soft kiss. I grabbed his cheek as he moved his hands to my waist. He pulled me closer so our bodies would be crushed together. Sterek licked my bottom lip slowly and I was going to open my mouth when I was pulled and dragged away from Sterek. Griffin was barking and howling as we ran. I tried controlling him but he was a dog for god's sake!
"Sorry Sterek! I'll see you later!" I yelled
"Okay!" He yelled back. I chuckled when Griffin didn't stop running until we got home. I wonder what my parents would say when they see a big wolf running into their house.
~~~
Griffin ran inside the house and he started barking and howling. I got on my knees and placed my hands over his mouth. "Sh, Griffin. You're so loud," I muttered. His nodded excitedly and I chuckled. This dog was filled with spirit that it made me laugh. I love him when I first saw him. Who wouldn't want an adorable dog?
"Are you hungry, boy?" I asked him. He licked my hand I pulled back. Saliva was all over my hands. It looked like goo. "Aw, gross. If you want to lick me, lick me with less saliva, okay?"
Griffin nodded and barked. It was weird how the dog understood me but at least he knew what I wanted from him. I got up and looked around in the cabinets. We had canned beans, soups, and vegetables. I grabbed a vegetable can and showed it to him. "You wan this?"
He shook his head. I looked at the vegetable can and saw spinach. I placed it back in the cabinet and mumbled a "gross." I watched to the fridge to find water and sliced meat. I grabbed it and placed the meat and water on the table. I grabbed two bowls from the cabinet and placed it on the table next to the items. I poured the water in one bowl and the other bowl I placed all the sliced meat. I went to Griffin and put the bowls in front of him.
"Dinner is served," I said happily.
Griffin sniffed the meat and licked his lips. He ate the meat slowly and lied on the floor. I didn't want him by himself because he might get hurt. I grabbed a chair and put it in front of him. I sat on the chair and watched him eat. I put my hand on my chin and leaned my elbow on my thigh.
"What do you think of Sterek?" I asked out loudly. Griffin stopped eating and looked up at me. He gave me an innocent look with his small blue eyes.
"What about Andy?" His wiggled his tail.
"What about me?" He barked happily and wiggled his tail.
I chuckled and ruffled his head. I should tell Sterek and Andy that Griffin loves me more than them. The door clicked and opened and my parents came in. They froze and my mom screamed, hugging my dad for dear life.
"Is that a wolf? Get him out of here! Oh my god!" My mom screamed. I got up, knocking the chair accidentally and got in front of Griffin. My dad held onto my mom's waist and backed up to the door.
"Calm down, guys. This is my dog, Griffin. Two friends came over and they asked what dog I liked, remember?"
"Yeah, I remembered but I didn't actually think they'll bring a wolf!" My mom exclaimed.
"He's a dog, mom! He's just looks like a wolf! He's the sweetest dog on the planet. Can we keep him, please?"
My dad was extremely calm while my mom was shaking and clutching on my dad's shirt. My mom loves dogs but I didn't know she'll be afraid of them. My dad loves dogs, too because he hated cats. But he loves kittens even though they make him sneeze a lot.
"We can't give him back to them. They gave the dog to him as his birthday gift," my dad said.
My mom opened her more to object but Griffin walked towards them and licked starched her leg. She giggled and playfully slapped Griffin's paws but he kept starching her legs. My mom let go of my dad's shirt and got on her knees, nuzzling his fur. Griffin licked her face and she giggled loudly. I knew my mom was going to take him back to the pet shop but once she saw his sweet personality and blue eyes, she couldn't say no. "Alright fine, we can keep him."
I cheered and hugged my mom. She landed on her back and groaned. I squeezed her tightly and smiled. "Thanks mom."
I got up and my mom pulled her up from the ground. My mom and dad looked puzzle yet happy. My mom grabbed Griffin's leash and pulled him into the kitchen. It was just me and my dad. My dad had his pockets jammed into his pants and his hair was covering his some of his eyes. I frowned and shifted my feet. What can I say to my dad? I said some really bad shit and I felt like taking it back. Shay did a lot of things to make my life happier and it has. I wished he was here so I could tell him thank you.
"I'm always here, Gabe," Shay said.
"I know," I said.
"What was that?" My dad questioned.
I quickly said, "nothing, nothing. Just talking to myself."
My dad nodded and took off his coat. I watched him and noticed the similarity. He had my hair but it was more blonde, his brown eyes were focused and vague. My dad was always the serious type while my mom was the happiest, joker in the family. I used to have her personality and Shay had a mixer. He was like my dad, my mom, and my uncle who lived in Chicago.
"Tell him you're sorry," Shay whispered.
"Why are you whispering?"
He pointed up the sky. "They can hear me. They're singing so I have to sing with them."
I knitted my eyebrows and shook my head. Whatever was Shay telling me was crazy as always. My dad walked into the kitchen with my mom and Griffin. I followed him and they chatted happily. I petted Griffin's head and saw the smiles and happiness in their eyes. What made them happy? Was it that they had each other? Was it Griffin? Was they high? "Mom, dad?"
They looked at me with smiles on their faces. I opened my mouth to say sorry but nothing came out. Seeing them happy made me realized something. If they were happy, they were happy with me and I shouldn't ruin that.
"Yes, Gabe?" My mom said sweetly. I shook my head and flashed them a smile.
"I'm just happy that you're home. Thanks for letting me keep Griffin."
My mom covered her mouth over her hand and fanned herself. My dad smiled widely and ruffled my hair. My mom wrapped me in her warm brace and I let myself relax. My dad hugged me too and Griffin barked. It's been so long since I had them look at me with happiness and the one that I wanted back since I was born. Love.
