Mark sighed as he walked back into his classroom. He paced over to his desk and plopped down in his seat, leaning back into the chair.
Jaehyun entered the classroom a little while after, running a hand through his soft blonde hair and taking his seat to the left of Mark.
"What took you so long? You were almost late." Mark asked as the final bell rang, signifying that class has started.
"I was talking to that Haechan kid. He's really funny and a pretty-"
"Annoying kid." Mark interrupted, propping his head up with his hand.
Jaehyun’s dark eyes widened and his mouth hung open for a second. "Annoying? Mark Lee, did you just call someone annoying?" He questioned, scooting his desk a bit closer to his friend's. "I think Haechan's a sweet kid. I like him."
Mark cocked an eyebrow. "How? He's really loud and that annoys me."
Jaehyun let out a 'tsk', shaking his head. "Wow, Mark. I never knew you could be this mean to someone, and I've known you since we were kids!"
Mark opened his mouth to reply, but was cut off by the sound of their teacher's voice saying that class was in session and all mouths should be off.
During class Mark couldn't focus, which was weird for him, because he would usually be extremely attentive during classes. What was on his mind?
Donghyuck
Mark has never disliked someone. Ever. He was what most people would describe as a 'Sweet Angel'. Or, that's what most people called him. Having this emotion towards someone made the boy feel...weird. But he wasn't going to force himself to like someone, so he just had to deal with it.
"Mr. Lee!" The teacher's booming voiced snapped Mark out of his trance, and the class let out quiet giggles.
"Uh, sorry." Mark straightened up in his seat, clasping his hands together and looking up at the teacher.
"Don't be dozing off in my class." He told him, and the boy nodded.
When class was over, Mark complained to his best friend that he had a headache.
"I think I'm gonna ask my mom if she can just pick me up. I haven't been focusing right in classes, anyways." The shorter boy sighed, pulling out his phone.
"And leave me all alone? How can you abandon me, Mark?" Jae made puppy eyes at the boy, but he didn't pay attention.
"My health is more important." He laughed, flicking Jae's forehead playfully, making him wince.
"Agh, okay then. But, one of these days I'll leave early and you'll have to face the loneliness." Jae snickered.
"Just make some more friends."
"I'm surprised neither of us have any since you're the star of the school, Mark."
"That doesn't mean I have to have the most friends. It just means a lot of people know about me." He shrugged, putting his phone away. "My mom's making her way over here, so I'm gonna head to the office." He held out a peace sign to his friend and walked away, heading to the office.
Jaehyun leaned against the wall, already feeling lonely when Mark has been gone for less than 30 seconds.
Suddenly, an idea popped into his head, and the boy began running down the hallway and stairs to the year below him.
He lightly jogged through the hallway, not wanting to get in trouble, and searched the small ocean of people that gathered in the hallways. He checked classrooms and bathrooms until his vision set on the red head that he wanted to see.
"Haechan!" Jaehyun called out, and the boy peeked his head up to see where the voice was coming from. When he saw Jaehyun who towered over a large amount of the students, a smile took over his face.
They made their way through the hallway until they met with each other. "What's up, Jaehyun? Where's Mark?" Donghyuck asked, standing on his tiptoes.
Jaehyun sighed. "He went home because he was complaining about a headache. I think he's just embarassed from getting in trouble during class." He laughed, small crinkles forming aroumd his nose.
"So you came to me?"
"Yeah, because I wanted someone to hang out with!" Jae punched the boy's arm softly. Jaehyun really liked this kid, he didn't understand how Mark could think someone like this is annoying.
Donghyuck's face lit up. "Oh my- Does that mean we're friends!?" He asked excitedly, and Jaehyun nodded in response.
"Do you want to walk home with me today, since Mark isn't here? I'm not saying that you can't walk with us if Mark is here I'm just-"
"Sure, Jae!" Haechan got quiet quickly after that, then shyly looked up at him. "Is it okay if I call you Jae?"
Jaehyun nodded. "You don't have to treat me like an elder or anything; I don't like being called that stuff. And Jae rolls off the tongue better." He chuckled.
A new friendship is off to a good start.
