Mark's eyes widened and he choked on air. "What? Me? You have a crush on me?" He asked, pointing his thumb at himself. Donghyuck's cheeks became dusted with pink and he nodded, looking away from the older boy. "You're joking, right?" Was all that Mark managed to say.
The other boy's eyes widened as well and he bit the inside of his cheek. "No, I'm not." He said bluntly, a shy and unsure smile on his face.
The blonde stayed silent for a moment before quietly speaking up. "Why...why would you like me? We've only known each other for like...a week." Mark questioned, but Haechan shook his head.
"That's true but...I've liked you since my first year of high school!" He looked back up at Mark, giving the blonde a toothy smile, but his eyes were full of nervousness.
Mark felt guilt punch him in the chest. He's been rude to this boy who has had a crush on him for nearly two years. They had barely met yet Mark was being unwelcoming from the very beginning, which made him hurt even more.
The older boy shook his head, running a hand through his straightened hair. "No...you've really got to be joking. You might want to think again, because crushing on me is a bad idea. Sorry but nice try, kid." He tried to laugh the situation off and shrugged his shoulders. He reached for his school bag and got up from his seat, moving out of the booth and pulling out a small amount of money, sliding it over to the boy who kept a smile on his face even after what his crush had said to him.
"Buy yourself an ice cream." Mark pursed his lips and gave the red head an awkward smile, then made his way out of the ice cream parlor, waving to Jungkook and Suga on his way out.
Haechan stared at the money that was placed before him, his smile slowly fading until it was completely gone.
Mark jogged the entire way to Jaehyun’s house; sweat began to run down the sides of his tanned face and his breathing was ragged.
When he reached Jaehyun’s small home, he hopped up the small stairs and leaned against the wall by the front door for a few moments to catch his breath before ringing the doorbell.
When Jae opened the door he lifted a confused eyebrow when he saw his sweat drenched friend standing at his door way. "What is it? Aren't you supposed to be at the ice cream whatever?" He looked over Mark's head at the now orange evening sky.
"That you set up so I could be alone with Donghyuck." Mark snapped back, putting his hands in the pockets of his school uniform pants.
Jae smiled. "Yep, that was my plan all along. What was so bad about it?" He puckered his lips a bit and rose an eyebrow.
Mark stayed silent and looked at the ground, kicking his foot before looking back up at the pale skinned boy. "He confessed to me, Jae. He's gay. Or...he likes boys, at least." His voice became stern, and no kind of emotion was displayed on his face.
Jaehyun made an 'o' with his lips and crossed his arms, pursing his lips and looking at Mark's feet. "Oh. I didn't intend for that to happen." He muttered, and the two stayed quiet, the only sound being the noise of passing cars every now and then.
"But why are you coming to me about it?" Jae finally picked up the conversation, his voice getting louder as he shot his head back up to look down at Mark.
The blonde shrugged, giving his friend a quick frown. "Because I feel like you had something to do with it. I wasn't with you guys for two days, you could've been planning this the entire time."
Jaehyun's mouth became a straight line. "Dude what the fu-"
"You told Donghyuck to confess to me as a joke, right?" Mark interrupted him, walking a few small steps closer to the boy so that their bodies were nearly touching. Jaehyun took a step back because of how uncomfortably close the blonde was.
"What are you talking about, dude? I already told you, I didn't intend for this to happen. I had no idea that he would do that. Hell, I didn't even know he had a crush on you!" He looked Mark in the eyes, and neither of them blinked for the longest time. "I didn't tell him to do anything and judging by the way he talks about you, he actually does have a crush on you." He finished quietly.
Mark finally blinked and so did Jae. Mark's eyes stung and tears formed as he took a few steps back, stumbling backwards as he missteped and almost fell down the small stairs that led to Jaehyun’s door. He looked at Jaehyun who had a serious look on his face. "Are you crying?" Asked Jae, his rock hard expression being broken by a small smirk.
"No! When I blinked my eyes watered, that's all." He murmured, wiping his eyes with his arm. "Look, I'll just see you tomorrow. I'm gonna go." He pointed his thumb in the direction that he would be heading.
"Ah, okay, then. You better hurry because the sun's going down." Jae pointed at the sky and Mark nodded. They passed their goodbyes and Mark rushed home, and the entire time all that he was feeling was guilt.
