Rocky Roads
Being married on the 30th March 1965 was the pinnacle... from there the pressure cooker of a Beatle life simmered along gently til the heat turned up and up, until it boiled and blew the top off our serenity.
"You lot all agreed to this, not me. I said it was a bad idea" I yelled at John through the door of the bathroom.
He grizzles through the door back at me then he is throwing it open, smashing it into the shower screen behind. He was livid and I actually let the thought, that he would grab me, cross my mind. But as soon as I did I let it go. He wouldn't. He was wonderful in that regard. He knew when to take his leave, so he did.
He turned about for his jacket. Livid but still in control "I'm going out" He spit the word out over his shoulder.
And then... he's gone.
Not every day was bad. Weeks could go by without a hitch, we would be loved up and as together as the previous times- 'joined at the hip' as Richie sometimes referred to our constant proximity to each other. We made love passionately, and often; long lazy weekends sprawled on the couch or in bed. Reading, kissing, crosswords questioned and filled in, tea and toast, touching; oh just the touch of his hand could send me to heaven- that man was magic to my senses.
Then something rocky and disputive band related would happen and the rot would set in once again.
After the management documents were signed and sealed The Beatle operation did finally settle into a good business.
Trying to stop the blatant drain from the coffers of Apple was another story entirely though.
Magic Alex came with his trickery and blatant inventive idiocy. Many others would simply walk in off the streets....offer an idea and the boys, being bored and easily led, would let these charlatans, practising quackery or some similar trick, obtain money.
Don't get me wrong a LOT of good was done too, many singers were nurtured and promoted. Albums and careers launched, but our Liverpool commoner roots made us all overwhelmed by the huge business and side show that was The Beatles circus.
Our pressure cooker of a marriage was hot. We, were hot, for sure.
John, the Beatles, the 'toppermost of the poppermost' was their early catchcry- always burning the hottest, brighter than the sun. Though now, they probably wish they weren't so close to that flaming ball of fire.
The blaze of a worldwide fan base wanting every single piece of each of them for themselves forced the lads to hibernate from touring. They loved giving back to the fans who put them where they were. The fans that were forever buying the albums but those same fans would tear them apart if they ventured too close and the screams, of thousands at concerts, oh my lord, the sound.... Hibernating in the studio was the only way.
Me on the other hand - from Beatles in-house legal counsel, began to quickly gain a reputation of being thorough and whip-smart lawyer who would work her backside off to get you in the clear. My speciality had obviously become entertainment law working for bands and the band members themselves it was basically everything I did for the lads but now it was also for everyone else. This was new legal territory and I was on the crest of the wave of a new, always changing, business landscape.
It quickly became apparently that I had to train my own band of lawyers, most garnered straight from university so they weren't bogged down in archaic ways. They were as hip as the bands they would provide a service for.

...it says on my stationary, and that's where the new franchises of my agencies were based.
