Chapter 25: Mistakes

Ayato slowly approached Kaneki who in response exposed his ghoul eye. 

"What do you want?" Kaneki demanded to know. 

"I'm not here to fight" Ayato responded in a dull tone. 

"Then why are you here?" 

"I wanted to talk to you about... Touka" Kaneki raised an eyebrow. 

"Touka... what do you want with her?" 

"I want to see her" Kaneki glared at him thinking about that night in the 11th. 

"You put your sister through a lot of pain, you abandoned her..." 

"I know, but I've been thinking about that night since it happened; the things I did and said to her and what you did in her defense. I was acting like... a brat" He looked down seemingly upset. 

Kaneki softened, he sounded genuine, like he was tired of all the fighting and danger.

"What about Aogiri?" 

"Geez you like to play 20 questions don't you?" Ayato smirked looking up

Kaneki hardened his look again causing Ayato to look towards the ground again.

"Sigh.. I left them, since you took care of Yamori, the group was falling apart. I lost interest and felt the cause to be stupid. I just want to make things right with my family. They won't do anything I swear..." 

Kaneki saw pain in his eyes. They were more familiar than Kaneki wanted to admit. He too had put his family through hardship albeit unintentionally. Nonetheless, he had to do damage control as well. Ayato seemed to have come to the same conclusion wanting to make things right. 

"Sigh... Listen, I'm not going to stop you from seeing Touka, she's your big sister and you're the only blood she has. It would be appropriate to make things right" 

Ayato looked up with his eyes wide. 

"However Ayato, you do remember what I did to you that night. The power I had then is a mere fraction of what I possess now, if you do ANYTHING to bring more pain to Touka, you will get no remorse from me I assure you" 

Ayato grunted, but nodded understanding fully. 

"Now that was the easy part Ayato, if you think I'm being hard, You'll be lucky if Touka doesn't try to kill you" 

"I know, she has every right to hate me..." 

"It may take some time, but she'll forgive you, you're family after all. Come by Anteiku tomorrow at closing, I'll be working there with her and Yoshimura. There won't be any customers and you can talk. I'm not going to say anything to her before though" 

"OK" 

"Also, whatever she does to you, you will not retaliate... Am I clear?" 

"I don't want to hurt her anymore..." 

"And if this turns out to be some sort of set up by Aogiri... you'll all feel my wrath"

"It's not"

"Good, I'll see you tomorrow then. By the way, where are you staying?" 

"Banjou's" 

"Figures he's too nice for his own good" 

"Yeah I appreciate him letting me stay" 

"Say hi for me"

With that, he donned his black rabbit mask and jumped away. 

"Tomorrow ought to be interesting" Kaneki thought before heading back inside. As he approached his apartment and inserted the key he held his breath.
