Chapter 13

Chapter 13: Heartbeat

Ang bilis lumipas ng panahon. Natapos na ni Vince ang kanyang master's degree. I was so happy for him. He's the executive vice president in their company now. He worked his way up without the influence of his family. Nasa ikatlong taon na rin ako sa kolehiyo. 

Our relationship hasn't exactly been smooth sailing. We've had our fair share of 'tampuhan' and misunderstandings, but we've managed to work it out. Every year, he visits me and stays for a month at least. He never missed our anniversaries. 

"Ang galing no, best? Ilang taon na rin kayo ni Vince pero going strong pa rin," Mikey said.

Pareho na kaming nakahiga sa kanya-kanya naming kama. I smiled and turned to face her. 

"Kayo rin naman ni Bobby ah. Going strong."

Yep, she and Bobby has ended up together two years ago. Ang tagal din nagpakipot ni Mikey bago niya sinagot ang nobyo niya. 

She frowned. "Si Bobby? Nako, best! Konting-konting push na lang talaga, ibabalik ko siya sa sinapupunan ng mommy niyang letse siya!"

I chuckled. "Don't tell me, nag-away na naman kayo?"

"Nakakairita ang mga fangirls niya sa school."

"Ikaw talaga. Hindi naman niya pinapansin ang mga iyon."

She pursed her lips. "Ikaw ba, best, hindi ka ba natatakot sa mga babaeng umaaligid sa boyfriend mo? For sure, ang daming nagkakagusto sa kanya doon. Si Vince pa eh, nuknukan ng gwapo yon!"

I smiled. "He doesn't give me any reason to doubt him, best."

"Speaking," Mikey said, grinning as she saw Vince's picture on the screen of my laptop. "May sariling mundo na naman kayo niyan. Sa labas na muna ako at makikipag-chikahan kina Maddy."

I just laughed then answered his call. "Hey,"

(Hey, angel,) he said, looking tired but still so handsome.

"You look tired."

(Had a lot of meetings. How was your day?)

Ilang sandali pa kaming nag-kwentuhan. Ganito kami lagi araw-araw. We always talk about our day. We also talk about our frustrations. He sometimes helps me out with my studies, as well. I love how he always makes it a point to make me feel like I'm part of his day. He always gives me time and attention even if we're thousands  miles apart.

"I wish we could be together every day."

He smiled. (Who knows, angel, it might come true?)

Ngumiti ako ng may tunog. "Right."

After our class, Mikey wanted to go bar hopping. She had a fight with her boyfriend which was pretty normal. Para naman kasi silang aso't pusa. Kanina pa niya ako pinipilit.

"I'll have to tell Vince first," I said.

"Papayag naman siya, diba?"

I shrugged my shoulder. "Let's see."

We had to wait for more than an hour bago siya nag-online. Si Mikey pa mismo ang nag-paalam sa kanya para sa akin. Pumayag naman siya but he told me not to drink. Not even a sip, he said. Meron pa nga akong curfew. I had to be home before 12.

"Para namang ako si Cinderella," I said chuckling.

(Well, it's either that or you stay home,) he said.
