Chapter 2: La Mia Vita

I smiled sadly as I looked at myself in the mirror. My make up was simple yet it made me look even more angelic. The lower part of my hair was also curled. I breathed out then reached for my bag as I heard mama calling out my name. It was my graduation day. The day that I had been waiting for.

"Baby, you look so angelic," mama said as she hugged me.

I chuckled softly. "Halo, ya."

"Oo! Yun nga! Ka-ganda talaga ng alaga ko."

"Yaya Bebang is right, anak. You look so angelic. I knew that white dress would suit you so well," papa said as he kissed my head.

"Thanks, papa."

"Anong gusto ng anghel namin?" mama asked.

Vince, ma. Could you give him to me? I almost voiced out my thoughts. This day would've been perfect had he stayed true to his word. The reason behind why I worked so hard to get this award did not even bother to show up. He didn't even answer my emails.

"Kahit wala po, ma."

My parents looked at each other then smiled before they enveloped me in their arms. "We are so lucky to have you, anak. Mag-isip ka ng regalong gusto mo, your mom and I will give it to you."

I just smiled. When we reached the venue, I stayed outside for a few minutes more, waiting for him. I just couldn't give up yet. I waited until Mikey called me because it was time. A tear fell as I turned my back to go inside. He didn't keep his promise.

I chose to be happy for my parents and for the people who love me. On our way home, tahimik lang ako sa likod ng sasakyan habang masayang nagkukwentuhan ang parents ko at si yaya Bebs tungkol sa graduation at speech ko. They were so proud of me.

"Anak, ayaw mo ba talagang mag-celebrate?"

I smiled weakly at mama and shook my head.

They wanted to throw a big party for me, but I refused. I didn't feel like celebrating when my heart was breaking.

"Congratulations!"

My lips parted when I saw my friends and relatives were all present.

"Thank you po."

"Best! Congrats!"

I laughed. Tinawag ako ni mama. They said they had another surprise for me. I pouted when I didn't see any gift-wrapped box. I was about to go back inside when I heard that familiar voice.
