Lyra believes she has a reasonable handle on her life. Or so she thought, until her life was interrupted by a charismatic French dancer. She faces competition from other women, interference from her family, and a man from a past relationship that wa...

Lyra sighed as the sales representative rang up hundreds of dollars worth of clothing. She walked away when the total reached a thousand.
She wasn't raised to be ungrateful but she couldn't help the bitter feelings that were developing within her. She has always lived within her means, supported herself, and handed her own finances. The only man to ever spend more than a hundred dollars on her was her father. She prided herself on paying her own way in life. It was one more thing that differentiated her from her mother.
She walked over to McDonald's and ordered some hot tea to try to get her irritation to subside.
"Here." Vincent handed her a single bag. She smiled seeing two items inside. "Thank you." She was relieved he only walked out the store with these items. "You are welcome. Ready to go?" He asked. "Yes." She replied.

On the flight to the party, Ashlie noticed Larry was in a bad mood and Laurent was frowning while sleeping. She thought about asking if everything was okay but she knew they were moody. As long as they weren't at each other's necks, it was probably better not to get involved.
When they landed Larry kicked his brother to wake him, which only made Laurent snap at him. Ashlie accompanied them to the boat, showing them to their rooms then left without a word.
Ashlie's assistant Vicki, knocked on the brothers' doors, ran down the evening's schedule and delivered the suits Ashlie picked out. She handed them a map of the ship, clearly showing the party area, general, and off limits areas. With a blue line showing the most direct path to the party area.
"You're scheduled practice in thirty. Don't be late." Vicki turned to leave. "Who party?" Laurent yawned leaning against his door. "Miss Via." She replied looking at the itinerary.
"Miss Lire Via?" Laurent perked up. "Yes. Do you know her?" Vicki looked at him. "Yes, can I wish her happy birthday before we start?" Laurent smiled at her. "She's not here yet but I can try to sit you near her table. You now have 27 minutes." Vicki walked down the hall.
Before the party started, Ashlie walked through making sure everything was right then checked on the brothers. She knocked on Larry's door first.
Larry was frowning at the stiff fit of his suit when he answered.
"You look nice. Don't worry, it is just so you can mingle with the other guests. You can wear your normal clothes for the performance. Your brother's not here?" "Sleep." He pulled at his sleeves. "Think you should wake him so he can enjoy the party for a while. It is starting in a few minutes and it could prove a good opportunity to network." She flashed a smile.

After riding bikes with Vincent all afternoon, Lyra was rushing to finish getting ready when Vincent came to pick her up.
