Lyra took a deep breath, there was no point in getting upset. She knew exactly why her parents were not there. She had them arrested, provided everything needed to have them convicted and did nothing to keep them from being locked up for years.
Before court, her parents threatened to disowned her. The way Lyra saw it, her parents were still trying to hurt her. The same way Catarina did when she cut Lyra’s father and his children out of her will. But if Lyra was honest with herself, she was more disappointed than hurt they disowned her.
On her way into the courtroom, her mother spat at her saying she cursed the day Lyra was born. Her father's refusal to claim her as his child. Lyra smiled and took it in stride. She knew they were upset and blamed her for being in this situation.
While she didn't have to speak during the trial, she had a chance to speak at the sentencing. She listened to each of her brothers talked about how his parents pushed him, taught him about life, business and what it means to be a man.
Lyra smiled when it was her turn. She said she wasn't there to try to persuade anyone that her parents were good people. They manipulated and used people for whatever and however they could before discarded them when they found no further use for them. They disowned her because she refused to let them selling her. Finally she looked at her parents.
“I want thank you both for pushing me to work harder than my peers, to accomplished more than my brothers combined, to achieve more than anyone in my graduating class, to invested my money wisely, and to never gave up. It is your voices that is always in my head. Always telling me as a woman, I can't succeed in business, I should use my looks to get ahead instead of my brain, and I need to find and trap a rich husband before my beauty fades.” Lyra focused her gaze on her mother.
“In short, everything I have done was to be nothing like you. If I ever have a daughter, I am not going to motivate her through negativity like you. And best of all she will never find herself in a situation where she has to marry some horrible caveman for his money. So thank you, everything I am and have accomplished is in spite of you doubting me.” Lyra smiled at the shock on her parents’ faces. She smiled while they were sentenced to twenty years and were lead from the courtroom.None of that mattered. She was free and happy, she had Laurent and his family to call her own. She had her brothers with her to represent her parents. Their wives and her niece, her nonna and cousins sat on her side of the church along with Ashlie and her parents, King, Keisha, AJ, Gabby, Wall, Jam, Sin, Suga and Candy. All the people that she loved most were there to support her and that is what mattered.
“Is too late to run away. You already married.” Larry hissed in her ear making her jump in surprise.
“When did you-” Lyra gasped realizing she had missed her cue to start walking, the children had already walked halfway down the aisle.
“You're crying. Are you 5 okay?” Larry placing his hand on Lyra’s back.
“We’re fine Larry.” Lyra smiled then started to walk with her brothers to the front of the church.Larry is actually a sweetheart. He came back here to check on me and my baby… my two brothers, baby and me makes four.
“Wait, what do you mean five?” Lyra turned to face Larry. “Are you including yourself in this number?” She asked but Larry whispered no as he pressed on her back to keep walking.
“Are you trying to tell me I'm having twins?” Lyra whispered.
“Your doctor said you are growing 4 babies inside you.” He whispered in her ear.Lyra's knees weakened but Larry and her brothers kept her from heading towards the floor. They held on to her until she her stance was stable. She quickly looked at Laurent, he smiled and held out his hand to her.
