She furnished every room downstairs with a mixture of French 18th century inspired furniture and art. She made one room a nursery and three others were designated as children's room but she didn't want to furnish them until after she had the babies.
She hoped for boys and girls but she was told her multiples were monozygotic, meaning they developed from one egg and one sperm. Her babies would be identical in every way so either all girls or all boys. When she found out they would be completely identical, she told the doctor not to tell her husband the sex.
Lyra's baby shower didn't have a gender reveal but they told everyone she was having quadruplets. They had lots of family and friends come to help her celebrate. They played games, danced and had a good time.
Over the next few months, Laurent traveled a lot with Larry. Lyra thought it was because of their conversation about money but Laurent insisted he was trying to get as much as he could done before she gave birth.
Larry was easily convinced to move in but Laurent was still trying to convince his mother but she was stubborn about leaving her home. She did visit often and Lyra always told her she was welcome to stay as long as she wanted. Although she rarely stayed more than a few hours.
Lyra's stomach grew steadily until she couldn't see her knees when she sat down. She managed to continue to work out everyday. Her last four weeks she couldn't take a step without bumping into someone asking what she needed. Usually it was Laurent but Larry was also underfoot.
Already defying the odds of carrying her babies the full 40 weeks, every test result was encouraging that both mother and all the babies were healthy and in no danger. Lyra was more than ready to push her babies into the world with every fiber of her being. She tried everything to get her water to break, walking up and down stairs, spicy food, sex; none of it worked. Her water finally broke during her morning Tai Chi. She woke up Laurent to get her bag and drive her to the hospital while she cleaned up before heading to the hospital.
Lyra spent an hour walking the halls trying to get her cervical to move her labor along but apparently her body was determined to hold the babies in. She barely started dilating but her contractions were almost right on top of each other. The OBGYN evaluated the babies' positions, to find out the baby positioned to come out first was not head down. After spending about an hour trying to rotate the child's head down towards the birth canal, the OBGYN noticed she still wasn't fully dilated. He decided they waited long enough and would perform a cesarean section.
Lyra didn't mind because she and the doctor had an agreement. If she was going to be cut open then she was getting a tummy tuck at the same time.
Lyra watched as they pulled her first child from her. Through her haze, she thought the baby was big considering most quadruplets weigh less than 4 pounds. Her other babies didn't look any smaller. Her OBGYN had the nurses hold her children up for her to see. Before her plastic surgeon put her out for her procedure.
Lyra looked at each of her children. Although not a single one of them had her hair color, they had her hair texture. She couldn't tell if they would develop their father's strong facial features, or not but they were beautiful.
She woke up to Laurent holding her hand.
"They are beautiful." Laurent whispered, showing her their babies on his phone.
"They are healthy?" Lyra asked trying to shake the groggy feeling. He nodded.
"Your babies are all over four pounds, no defects and very beautiful just like their mother." Catarina said from the corner of the room.
"No problems?" Lyra asked.
"No Patatina, all healthy." Catarina smiled.
"You are amazing. I love you so much." Laurent whispered in her ear.
"I would love to hear more when the medication wears off." Lyra closed her eyes.~~~
Five year later
"Can you imagine a world with four beautiful men that look exactly like Laurent Bourgeois?" Ashlie said putting a tiara on little Lauranne.
"God knew exactly what he was doing, the world could barely handle two of them." Lyra laughed finishing Laurel's hair.
"You talking about me?" Laurent asked escorting Lauren and Laura into the sitting room.
"And your brother." Ashlie smiled.
"Aww look at the pretty dresses, you look so beautiful." Mama B cooed at her granddaughters.
"Merci grandmére." The little girls replied.
"You carriage arrived for take you to you party." Larry announced.
"Oncle, your English is as bad as Laurel's French." Lauranne said. Larry pouted as Lyra covered a small laugh.
"Anne, that isn't very nice." Laura chastised.
"Maman, Anne is being mean." Laurel complained turning to face Lyra.
"Your sister's French is better than your uncle's English." Lyra told Lauranne.
"She's not being mean it's the truth. Your French is an embarrassment to our family name." Lauren added. Lyra shot an accusatory look at Laurent that he pretended not to see it.
"Okay, little princesses, time to go to the ball." Ashlie interrupted."She takes after you." Laurent whispered as they rode away.
"Laurel is the only one fluent in Italian, her French will get better." Lyra sighed.
"I was talking about Lauranne." He replied.
"Oh yes, she is definitely just like you, a handful." Lyra laughed when he squeezed her.
"Are you happy?" Laurent asked holding Lyra in his arms.
"Every day of our life together." Lyra replied. "So you ready to try for boys?"
"If that what you want." Laurent replied kissing her neck.
Lyra nodded, "That's what I want."The End
