During dinner, Larry noticed his brother seemed like his normal self so he asked Laurent how he was feeling. Laurent told him he was fine, then asked why Larry lie to him. Laurent knew Larry was with Lyra. He could always smell her scent on himself for awhile after being around her.
Larry still denied it. Larry told him she kiss a guy in the club. Laurent replied he knew about Alejandro King, Lyra's high school boyfriend. He's married with a baby. Lyra, his wife, and he grew up together and are still close. He asked Larry again why he was with Lyra.
Larry avoided the question by asking if he knew her mother was still trying to set Lyra up with other guys. Finally Laurent had enough.
"I know you with Lire! What you do with her?" Laurent asked. Larry didn't like being accused of doing something with Lyra, of all people.
"I told you I with Ashlie!" Larry yelled.
"Why you lie? Tell me what you do!" Laurent demanded.
"You no believe me? Ask her!" Larry huffed, got up and walked away.~~~
Larry left for Paris that night.
Laurent called Ashlie about the club location for tomorrow night since he wasn't in the mood tonight. Ashlie told him Lyra flew back to Europe for work earlier today. She asked if they had fixed things before she left. He was silent and Ashlie rolled her eyes. She went on a slight rant about Lyra letting things fester instead of dealing with them right away like she should before she apologized.
"Lire say her and King, child friends."
Laurent said.
Ashlie smiled, "King is Lyra's only married friend. They have a lot of history but I'm sure she told you that."
"Yeah. He was her first, a lot of things. His wife her good friend too."
"Wow!" Ashlie laughed.
"What?"
"Lyra doesn't give a lot of details about her past and she almost never brings up King. They were the couple in high school until they got to college. They decided they were better as friends." Ashlie replied.Laurent didn't know the last part but after thinking about it he realized he should have. Lyra doesn't have casual sex, situations or relationships.
"Laurent, she isn't the pushy type in relationships, because she doesn't like being pushed into doing things she doesn't want. You understand, right?" Ashlie asked.
"Uh, no." Laurent replied.
"Okay, whatever. You are coming to the VMA after party with us next Thursday, I will text you the information. See you then." Ashlie hung up.~~~
Lyra turned on her phone when she left the airport. She sighed at the 15 voicemails and 54 text messages. She listened to her voicemail and groaned hearing Geeta's frantic voice. Apparently, the project she just spent the last 6 months overseeing was falling apart.
She made a few calls on her way to the office then spent the next 96 hours running through coding and debugging. Finally she found and fixed the error, pushed the software through testing and making sure it was operational.
By Saturday, she was exhausted and irritated that she had to put her other projects on hold, because one colon was in the wrong place. She started checking the coding for the project she needed to finish by Wednesday to make it to Ashlie's party on Thursday.
Lyra finally made it home early Monday morning. She showered, washed her hair, braided it down the back, and crawled into bed.
She woke up Wednesday to the sound of a buzzer. She sleepily reached over grabbed her alarm clock and threw it across the room, but the buzzing continued. She dragged herself out of bed over to the intercom.
"What?" Lyra snapped.
"Ms. Via? It's Sophia. I came to pack for your trip." One of her assistants said through the intercom.
"Come in." She replied pushing the button letting her in.
