Sapphire stopped herself from getting any closer. Ruby felt her hesitate. They both wondered if they should move away or keep going. Scared of what might happen after this, Sapphire moved away slowly.
"I'm sorry, I just..I-I just.."
"It's fine.." Ruby spoke in an almost hurt tone.
"D-don't take it personally, Ruby. I beg you, please don't. I really like you, and I really want to kiss you, but..."
"But what?"
"I don't want to lose you. I don't want to lose this. I've never been this close with anyone, and I don't want us to ruin our friendship if this affects it. I'm so sorry.."
Sapphire felt her one real eye start to tear up, then the tears streaked down her face and trickled onto the couch. Without any form of doubt, Ruby carefully wiped away the girl's tears. She didn't care whether they were together or not, but she did care completely about Sapphire. She had felt as if they knew each other their entire lives. Slowly wrapping her arms around her, Ruby placed her hands on Sapphire's waist and back, pulling her into a warm hug. Still weeping softly, the smaller girl snaked her arms around the taller girl's neck, moving in closer. They stayed like this for a few minutes before Sapphire felt Ruby's thumb slightly moving up and down her waist.
"Are you wearing a corset?" She asked.
Sapphire immediately moved away, breaking the hug and scooting to the other end of the couch.
"No one needs to know." Replied Sapphire.
"This isn't an okay thing to do, Sapph.."
She jumped a little at hearing the nickname.
"Wearing one of those things isn't healthy. You don't need it, trust me."
"Yes I do."
"You don't. You look beautiful without it."
"No I don't."
"Sapphire."
"Ruby."
Ruby sighed, frowning a bit and looking at Sapphire's body. She didn't dare look at her chest or any place she deemed herself unworthy to look at. She saw how slender and pale her arms were. She saw the almost-drained look of the other's skin at that moment. She saw the way her eyes stared in slight horror at the fact that she had just been called out on for trying to be something she didn't need to be.
"How long has it been since you've eaten?"
Sapphire lost it at that point.
