Just as Ruby accepted Lapis's offer, Jasper came out of nowhere, drenched in water and smirking at Sapphire the moment she saw her. Ruby did not like this. Jasper spoke.
"Well hey there, Miss Sapphire. Long time no see~"
Sapphire forcibly smiled at her.
"Nice to see you, too, Jasper."
"I'm Ruby!"
Everyone stopped to stare at the now very jealous, and very red, Ruby. Sapphire put a hand on hers and gave her a reassuring glance.

This was going to be a long day.

Lapis interrupted the silence.
"How about we all hang out for the afternoon? Just the four of us. We can do some catching up. It'll be fun."
If she weren't Sapphire's sister, Ruby would have gladly called her out on how much of a bad idea that was, but seeing that the two were related, and that Sapphire needed to reconnect with her, Ruby complied. Sapphire followed afterwards.
Jasper had an even bigger smirk on her face.

Ruby and Sapphire went on to build a tiny sandcastle, all the while being stared at by Jasper. Something wasn't right, and Ruby had a feeling that it had something to do with Sapphire's presence there. Just the was Jasper looked at her angered Ruby. They weren't romantic looks, but more like glances of pity and I'm-Better-Than-You, as if Sapphire was the lower entity when really it was the other way around, at least to Ruby it was.
Sapphire also noticed the stared piercing into the back of her mind, frying her brain and making her feel numb. It made her feel useless again, and she had no idea why. Jasper hadn't said anything to upset her, so why did she feel so awful?
Before she could think more on the topic, Jasper walked up to her and knelt down to where she and Ruby were sitting.

"I need to talk to you, Sapphire."

She looked at Ruby.

"Alone."
