The date had gone completely haywire. Ruby's reservations were an hour too early, Sapphire had forgotten all of her money, and Ruby didn't fully pay the rent for the tux.
So everything was going great.
"I'm sorry, I ruined everything." Ruby began.
"No you didn't, it's alright. We can find something else to do. Besides, fancy restaurants aren't exactly my thing."
"But Sapphy, I-"
"No buts. The night's still young, we can go somewhere else. Somewhere much more fun than this."
And with that they were off to see what the city had in store for them.

The rest of the night was filled with joy and laughter, even though all they did was purchase tacos from a lunch truck and sit on a park bench, watching the cars go by. They kept track of what kinds went by, sorting them by color and brand. They talked about family life, and ex-friends. They spoke about every category from A to Z, never once getting bored of each other. They kissed a few times, each one being as loving as humanly possible. Ruby looked at her girlfriend, watching her expressions through her thick bangs. She carefully read every detail in her emotion, never leaving out a single burst of happiness or anguish. Ruby began to speak.
"Sapphire?"
"Yes, Ruby?"
"I want to tell you something."
"I want to tell you something, too."
The air was still. It seemed as if every car stopped driving, every gust of wind stood still.
They both spoke at the same time.
"I love you."
The taller girl stared at the shorter, wide-eyed and ecstatic. Sapphire stared back with an enormous smile on her face. They hugged each other tightly, not wanting to ever let go. Ruby kissed her partner, giving her every ounce of affection she could muster up.
"Ruby?" Sapphire began.
"Yeah?"
"Can we go home?"
Ruby smiled softly and kissed her girlfriend's cheek.
"Of course, my Laughy Sapphy."
