Sapphire is insecure. She doubts everything about herself, from her appearance to her personality. This is no secret, especially when it comes to Ruby.
Of course the girl loves her girlfriend, but she can have her doubts sometimes. Her emotions have never faltered, but her suspicions on Ruby's behalf have. Her insecure nature makes her believe that Ruby might not really feel these things for her, or that she may be cheating or using her somehow. She would be naive to not consider her financial status (regardless of the events that took place with Sapphire's family, they still sent her money) as a possible motive. Or maybe it could have just been a dare, possibly to see how long Sapphire would last before Ruby got in her pants. In all honesty, Sapphire didn't know what to believe.
She trusted Ruby with all of her heart, and she loved her, but she was too skeptical of what could happen and what may or may not be the truth. She had always been that way.
Ruby was a mystery to anyone who spoke of her. She was confident, yet shy. Strong, yet weak. Sapphire didn't care about any of these things, though. She put those thoughts aside. Until today.

Ruby was too trusting. She has always been the first one to fall in love, the first one to kiss, and the last one who you'd expect to be loved.
Ruby had never been truly in love, just small crushes here and there. She had never felt what a real kiss felt like until she met Sapphire. She didn't doubt Sapphire's love in any way, shape, or form. She adored her, and her only hope was that they would be happy together.
At times, though, Ruby was known to screw up relationships with misunderstandings. She never said the right things, or she said what she meant but it came out in a wrong way. But something told her that she wouldn't ruin this relationship, at least not yet.

It all started back at school, things were fairly slow until a new student showed up: Emerald.
Ruby was nice to her, seeing that they had some classes together. Sapphire did the same, both girls being in the same major. Nothing happened for a few months, then Emerald started to take a liking to Ruby. Sapphire noticed.
It was obvious to everyone but Ruby that Emerald was flirtatious around her, batting her eyelashes at just the right times and keeping an innocent look on her face whenever she was within a ten-foot radius of Ruby. Sapphire stayed quiet for a little while about it, choosing not to say anything. She resisted the urge to just go up to her and tell her that Ruby was with her, not Emerald, and to stop flirting, but her good side got the better of her. Emerald never attempted anything, so neither had nothing to fear. That is, until Sour Cream held another party, this one being during Spring break. Ruby and Sapphire had decided to go together, not knowing that Emerald would be there, and things went downhill after that.
