I used to be outgoing! I loved to hang out with my friends and I was even in sports; particularly in softball. I had a loving family, we did everything together and we went on family vacations as much as we could. I was really close to my mom and dad and we never kept secrets from each other, but that all changed the day my aunt came to school, took me out of class, sat me down and told me that my mom was in a car accident. Apparently she was hit by a drunk driver and was killed on impact. She took me home because my father was in no way able to pick me up, let alone think.
When my aunt told me about my mom, I felt like my whole world came crashing down around me and I cried for weeks. I was devastated. To make things worse when I needed my dad the most, he stopped talking to me. He tried to avoid me as much as he could and I never understood why. After my mom's funeral, my dad started working long hours. He would come home really late, then he started to come home drunk every night. I was only fourteen at the time and I didn't understand. He'd come home drunk every night but one night was completely different, he came home drunk and instead of passing out on the couch, like he would always do since he started drinking, he came into my room and started yelling at me.
Telling me that I'm worthless and that I should have been the one that died and not my mother because I could be replaced and not her. When I tried to ask him why was he talking to me like that, I didn't get to finish what I was saying because next thing I knew my own father had slapped me but he didn't stop there, he kept going. Hit after hit, he kept hitting me until I blacked out.
I woke up the next day to an alarm going off. I prayed that everything that happened the previous night was just a dream but when I tried to move my whole body was crying out in pain and I realized that I was on the floor bloody from the beating. I decided not to go to school that day or the day after that, not that I could. Later that day my dad came home and beat me up again.
Four years later and nothing has changed since the first night that he beat me up. Every night after he's done, I curl into a ball and pass out wishing that my life will get better.

I was never the type that liked to play sports at school, I prefer to cage fight because it shows your true strength. I don't like a lot of people, everyone just pisses me off all the time. I only have a small circle of friends which consists of three guys, my boys, which I met at the gym when I first moved here in Denver.
My mom and I used to live with my dad in Los Angeles, California before we moved to Grand Junction, Denver. My parents used to fight all the time before we moved. I don't think there was ever a time that they got along. The first time I ever saw my dad hit my mom, I was nine years old. I was only a kid so I couldn't do anything to stop it even though I really wanted to. When I turned ten years old I decided it was time to act so I started taking MMA lessons. I had all this anger built up inside of me from seeing my mom get hit every day for a year.
At the age of thirteen, with three years of training in MMA, I decided to stand up for my mom and fight my dad. That night I jumped in front of my mom when he was about to hit her and I told him that it was going to stop right here, right now. I fought my dad off and didn't stop for any reason.
I beat him up pretty badly that he ended up in the hospital. Afterwards, I told my mom to call the cops. When they arrived we told them what had happened and how I beat him until he blacked out to save my mom, and since I didn't have a record they let me go with a warning. They told us that my dad was going to jail for assault and battery, as well as other misdemeanors. After we talked to the cops and my mom got checked out from the hospital, I told her we should move far away from here and that bastard. She agreed instantly and that's how we ended up here in Denver.
Ever since that day I put walls up. No one knows the real me except my mom and my boys; Nick, Jace, and Chris. I have commitment problems and I don't like to be in relationships. The longest I have ever dated a girl was for, like, a week but then I broke it off. I sleep around but not just with any girl. I'm picky with who I sleep with and make sure they won't be clingy or anything else. People here in Denver and especially in my high school call us, my boys and I, the "Bad Boys" because we tell it as it is, no bullshitting, and people don't like that. Everyone is scared of us, mainly me, because I will fight anyone willingly and go off on anyone who disrespects me and my boys.
It's funny to see how people don't make eye contact, they keep their heads down and walk as fast as they can when they walk by us. I guess I just give that vibe, the scary vibe, not to mention my size. The jocks tried to get me to play football but I refused, I told them that I prefer cage fighting better than football because football is for pussies. They got really mad at my comment, but I didn't care. I gave them my cold death glare and they shut their mouths really fast and walked away.
When we moved here and after everything that happened with my dad, my mom made me promise that if I ever see or find out that a girl is getting abused to report it. She felt that we had to protect anyone that would go through what we went through and I don't disagree with that. I will always hold true to my word because once I make a promise I keep it.
