I wake up as the sun is setting. I must have slept for a good couple of hours because the overhead sign says we are about ten miles from Grand Junction. I sit up, stretch a little bit and look at my dad. He is looking at the road ahead without noticing me so I go back to looking out the window at the passing trees and cars. My dad hasn't said a word to me since we left and I am glad. I don't want to talk to him, I just have to get through these next five months until I graduate or until I turn eighteen. I could just go back to Colorado Springs to live. I am glad we are not moving out to a different state, just another city in Denver. That is also the reason why we are driving and not flying over there. My body is sore from sitting in the car for a long time. I want to get out and walk a little but I don't want to ask so I'll wait until we get there.
Now ten miles later I am standing in front of our new house. The house is a medium two story, it's white with green shutters and the front has a screen door that is also white. It has bushes around the house with a big tree on the side. The house has a little fence around the front yard that you can just jump over. I walk into the house and the living room is what you see first. Apparently all our sofas and cabinets are here all ready. I walk more into the house, there is a dining room and you can see the kitchen and if you look to your left you see the stairs. On the side of the stairs is a hall with different rooms but I decide to go upstairs to find my room, it is located all the way at the end of the hall with a white door.
I walk in my room and notice that my things are already in here. The walls are white and it has a walk in closet. It's a nice room. I walk towards my window only to find that when I look outside I can see into my neighbor's room. I should get curtains immediately just in case they see something. I really don't want them to see if my dad beats me, that's the last thing I need right now. Maybe I can just put a sheet over the windows for now.
After sitting on my bed for a little time I start wondering if I am starting school on Monday, it is Friday afternoon now so maybe if my dad hasn't arranged anything for me, I may be able to do something. I unpacked all my things, taking me all day to do it and now I am tired. My dad hasn't bugged me since we got here, as a matter of fact he didn't talk to me the whole way here. Maybe it will be like that from now on but knowing my luck it won't last for long, but a girl can hope right? I guess I should find my dad and ask him when I start school even though I don't want to go and talk to him, I have to.
I take a big breath and then open my door, I start walking down the hallway towards the stairs. I go down the stairs slowly while listening to see where my dad is located. I hear noise coming from one of the rooms on the hall next to the stairs so I make my way slowly to them. I open the first door slowly and look inside the room. I guess this is my dad's office if the big desk would be an indication and there he is with his back turned to me. I guess he didn't hear me walk in because he didn't move at all so I take a big breath and call him.
"Dad," I say in a small voice and he turns to look at me.
"What do you want?" he asks bitterly, at least he didn't yell.
"I want to know what school I'm going to go to and if I'm starting on Monday?" I ask him looking down at the floor.
"Here, everything you need to know is in this folder," he says shoving a folder at me, almost making me fall over.
"Thank you," I say while turning and running back up the stairs as fast as I can.
I get to my room, close my door and decide to sit on the window seal with the window open to get fresh air. I look down at the folder my dad gave me and it has black and orange colors with a tiger pattern and the school's name is on the front of it in bold letters saying Grand Junction High School. I open the folder and it has information about the school such as the code of conduct, dress code and I notice that my dad has already signed the things that need to be signed. It, also, has a map of the school, my locker number and my classes inside. My classes consist of
