After that night of the destruction, which for once we didn't cause Kate's bakery, picked up, especially with Valentine's Day coming up. Plus, after that night, Frazier took a job there. It's not so much for the money, but to monitor things. As much as I was glad to have him there, not so sure it was a good idea to hire Frazier, although he knew about Coconut cream pies.
Kate was busy getting special orders ready for Valentine's Day, which was in three days. Guys wanted to surprise their girlfriends with sweet treats. Frazier and I waited on customers, taking orders. Everything was running smoothly, and we knew things would work out. At least, we thought so, until the morning before Valentine's Day.
I didn't have any classes that day, so I helped Kate finish up her special orders. Everyone had levels today. I dressed and went in early. I walked in the door, yelling, "Kate, I'm here to help you!" Then the color drained out of my face. I looked around to see all the food smashed. Kate is sitting at a table with head in her hands.
I walked over to her. "What happened? Last night everything was fine."
"I don't know, but I came in and found the lock on the back door broke. I figured maybe it was kids playing a prank or maybe I got robbed, but then I found the special orders gone. I looked everywhere until I came in here and saw this," she told me.
"Someone did this on purpose," I said, feeling angry.
"Yeah, but why?" she asked.
"To send a message," I answered.
My blood was boiling, and I knew it had to do with Max's brothers. I had enough. First, we needed to clean up, then figure out a way to fulfill the orders, or Kate's bakery would be out of business when word got out she had nothing for anyone.
I sent a mass text to everyone with a bakery 911.
After classes, they arrived to find us cleaning up.
"What happened?" Ryan asked.
"They destroyed everything," I told him.
Frazier went in the back and came out. "Not my cupcakes! I worked so hard on them!"
Marissa comforted him, and he laid his head on her shoulder. "But I worked so hard that I had blisters from all the frosting I did," he whined.
Frazier took it harder than we did. I shook my head and looked at Ryan, "So, what now?"
"Is there any way you can fulfill the orders, Aunt Kate?" he asked her.
"I can try, but it will need more human resources. Even with all of us and then some, I need an experienced baker who knows this kind of pressure," she explained.
He thought about it for a minute, then came up with an idea. "Be right back."
"Where are you going?" I asked.
"I need to make a call," he said, leaving the bakery.
I shrugged, and we all went into the kitchen, mixing up cakes and frosting.
Two hours later, Ryan came into the back. "I'm back."
"What took so long," I asked.
"Needed reinforcements. They just got here," Ryan replied.
In walked three women, Maggie is one of them.
"You all know my mom, and she wanted you to meet two of her friends. That is Karen Greene and Mary Cassidy. Karen owns her own baking/catering business, and Mary is her best friend that helps her. They also did the food at Karen's daughter Madison's wedding," Ryan explained to us who the women were with Maggie.
