It took a little over a month, but I started feeling better and healed. We were into the last semester of our sophomore year. With everything going on, I'm surprised we were passing, especially with some crazy lunatic trying to kill us.
Charles was one step closer to figuring out who sent the packages, so we just had to wait and see. In the meantime, we carried on with our lives.
I was sitting on the bed with my books all sprawled around me, working on homework for my classes. I may have a photographic memory and high IQ, but I still needed to stay on top of my work. I had my hair up in a messy bun with pencils sticking out of it because it seemed every time I set one down, I would forget I did and grab another one from my hair.
I was so engrossed looking up information; I didn't hear anyone at the door, then I heard someone chuckle. I looked up and saw Ryan standing at the door with his arms crossed.
"This is a sight if I have ever seen one. You remind me of the lady from Ferris Bueller's Day Off," he mentioned.
I rolled my eyes and went back to my books, putting a pencil in my mouth while I flipped through the pages. Ryan came over and crawled into the bed until he was in front of me. He took the textbook from my hands and tossed it aside. "Did anyone tell you you're hot when you're studying?"
I looked at him with the pencil in my mouth, and he took it out, kissing me, laying me down on my back. I wrapped my arms around his neck, kissing him back. As we kissed, Frazier ran to our doorway. "Come on, you guys, we don't have time for this!"
We stopped and looked at him as he ran down the hall.
"What was that about?" I asked, confused.
"With Frazier, it's anyone's guess. Come on, we better see what the idiot is talking about," he said, grabbing my hand and helping me off of the bed.
We went down the stairs, and it was dark. I know I heard Frazier leaving, slamming the front door. I grabbed Ryan's arm tightly.
"It's okay. Let me grab the light," Ryan said, hitting the switch, then I heard "surprise!"
I jumped from everyone yelling and hid behind Ryan. I peeked over his shoulder and saw everyone in the living room with Frazier holding a cake. I looked at Ryan, and he smiled at me. "Did you think I would forget about your birthday?"
Ah, fudge nuggets, I forgot about my birthday. Can you blame me with a crazy lunatic running around loose, trying to destroy our lives?
I looked at him. "At least, you remembered."
He looked at me with his chocolate brown eyes. "Did you forget your birthday?"
"Well," I said.
"You did," he said, surprised.
"Did you forget your birthday?" asked Frazier.
I rolled my eyes. "Yes, yes, I did."
"Good thing you have us as friends," said Marissa.
"Good thing I have the best friends like all of you," I smiled.
"We got you, girl," added Elena.
"Just like you have our backs, we have yours," said Jordan.
"I'm glad. My life has changed so much for the past three years with all of you. You've made it much better," I told them.
"Even Frazier," Ryan asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Hey," Frazier exclaimed.
I giggled. "Yes, even with Frazier, and I wouldn't change a thing."
