Ryan kept his word and helped me out with the professor with writing codes and programs. It helps when your fiancé is majoring in Computer Science and Programming. He also hung out with me at the bakery, although Kate put him to work while he was there. Watching him and Frazier at the bakery was interesting, especially with Valentine's Day coming up.
We all helped Kate with her special orders, while Frazier came up with special treats just for the day, like candies and baked goods. They were a hit with everyone, and he received a lot of orders for his specialty items.
One delivery came in early, so Ryan and I met with the delivery guy so that they could bring in everything. We had to open everything and take inventory to make sure we received all the products from the supplier. After we counted everything, the driver got into his truck. I found an extra box and ran over to the driver. "Sir, you forgot a box."
I showed him the box, and he looked at it, then handed it back to me. "It's not one of our ladies. Someone else delivered it."
"Oh," I said.
"You have a nice day," he said as he drove off. I carried the box in, looking even more confused than before. Ryan was writing counts as I walked in, taking the package.
"What did the driver say?" He asked me.
"It's not theirs. The driver said someone else must have delivered it," I answered.
He set the clipboard down and walked over to me, taking the box from me, "That's odd. Why would someone deliver a box to the bakery?"
Then we looked at each other, and Ryan pulled a pocketknife from his jeans, flipping it open, cutting the tape on it. He closed the knife, and we opened the box, dropping it upon seeing the contents, making us jump out of our skin.
"What the hell is that?" I asked him, feeling sick.
"Someone's idea of a sick joke," he frowned.
I looked at the open box and noticed a note fell onto the floor. I picked it up, and we read it.
Did you think moving would stop me? I know about your little engagement. Too bad it won't last. I thought you both were smarter than that. I guess not. Enjoy the treat I sent you. Hopefully, the health department doesn't find out, you know, with Valentine's Day coming up and all. It would be a shame to have happened, what happened last year. Oh, that's right, you saved the day, but this time you won't be so lucky. See you soon, lovebirds.
Sincerely,
An unknown enemy
"Great," he growled.
"Now, what?" I asked him.
"We have to get rid of this box with these pieces of dead animals now. Aunt Kate will kill us if her bakery gets shut down," he mentioned.
I furrowed my eyebrows in frustration. Can't we have one day where this freaking lunatic doesn't ruin things for us? Ryan pulled me to him, wrapping his arms around me. I wrapped my arms around his waist, burying my head into his chest.
"I know you're frustrated, baby, but we'll find out who this person is doing all of this," he reassured me.
"I sure hope so," I whispered. Ryan reached into his back pocket, pulling out his phone and making a phone call while holding me with his other hand. A minute later, a guy dressed in casual clothes showed up, and Ryan picked up the box, handing it to him.
He opened the box looking at the contents and smirking, "Well, this is new. They're getting creative now."
"How can you find this funny? It's disgusting." I shuddered.
