Really, this is more of a quick update before I suddenly go MIA lmao. Also if any of you are interested, go check out Mysterious Fates. (Yes, I can hear you groaning internally but let's be fair tho, at least I don't bombard you guys with self advertisements every chapter.)

I was rewatching a few episodes of the 90's Sailor Moon and I realized something: the anime is considerably campy, especially for a magical girl anime. But when the emotional moments hit, it really hits the feels.

There's a scene where Usagi finds the Star Locket which plays the first few notes of "Moonlight Densetsu" and you somehow feel the nostalgia and sadness that cements why Sailor Moon has lasted all these years.

In fact, I feel like that's a lot of anime during the 90's tbh. There was a certain weight of drama, nostalgia and emotion to them and just enough humor so that it didn't become overkill, and the music to majority of them is one of the prime reasons why they still hold relevance. If there's one complaint I have with the more recent anime, it's that music almost doesn't matter in the context of the series and therefore, there's a kind of disconnect with the series and audience. Don't get me wrong, the emotional scenes will still give you the feels (depending on who you are), but the music doesn't really, well, I don't want to say bring them down or that they won't hold relevance but there is something about them that really doesn't do anything to try to connect itself with the series.

I guess I should clarify that the music to recent anime still gives an identity to the series. Like we still know Fairy Tail when we hear it's main theme song (Both old and new), or we know it's Madoka Magica whenever "Decretum" pops up in a scene. That hasn't changed. But you no longer get OPs like "Moonlight Densetsu" or "Lillium" (From Elfen Lied) in variations throughout the series as part of the story.

All I'm just saying is that they are no longer the central focus anymore, for better or worse. :/

(Then again, maybe I'm just a huge sucker for music box variations of OPs, esp if they are sad and emotional.)

On a completely unrelated note:

I promised myself I wasn't going to download the soundtrack until I've watched the movie

I promised myself I wasn't going to download the soundtrack until I've watched the movie. But lo and behold, I got the ending spoiled (kind of) during the last day of my Film Studies course last quarter, and my best friend was playing the first few notes of Mia and Sebastian's theme on the piano and I've had these two songs on repeat since last night. Granted, I haven't downloaded the songs that are sung in the movie, but I'm 90% sure they'll be riddled with spoilers for the entire film so yeah, I'm sticking with these two songs for now and I'm going to pretend that the spoiler I've heard for La La Land is a complete theory.

Sidenote: I still haven't watched the movie yet, and I do plan to.....when I'm not swamped with taking four classes this quarter. *sighs* Calculus and Java programming are going to be the death of me.
