Bollywood (aka the Indian Industry in General)

This rant....some of you will understand, and some of you won't. But it's okay, cause it's my opinion. Some of you may not agree but I'll straight out say that I don't hate Indian movies. So before you get your panties in a twist, I'd suggest reading the entire thing first. Here's a Shah Rukh Khan Gif cause why not. XD

Ah, Bollywood. In the words of Lilly Singh, aka Superwoman, "A brown girl's drug, a fantasy escape and every guy's nightmare." The funny part is that I find the last part ironic. AHAHAHA

Now, don't get me wrong here. I like Bollywood movies (mainly the 90's). I like Kollywood movies as well (for the most part.) It's just that I have a love-hate relationship with it. The reason? Well, here's what I have noticed in most Bollywood movies:

-The leads are always very pretty or very handsome (The problem is kind of worldwide tbh but let's just focus on Bollywood for now)
-The female or male is always 1st in his or her class (or complete failures, the males mainly come into this category)
-The girl is either a goody-two shoes, treated like an object, or overly sassy and sarcastic (the movies create a very thin line with these types of characters)
-The guy is the guy who brings "excitement" to the girl's life (most often in action movies)
-The sidekicks are either complete idiots or complete jerks (mostly the comedians take this role)
-"Perfect" (Can we say bland?) characters that you can't get invested in
-Almost every single movie has the EXACT SAME BLOODY PLOTLINE!!! (Boy is introduced in a unrealistic way, has fun with his trusty sidekick, boy meets girl (who is introduced as the most beautiful specimen, therefore creating love at first sight) and tries to get her attention but she plays hard to get; eventually she falls in love with him, parents don't agree, couple tries to elope, tons of stuff, a fight scene happens...blah blah blah, the couple gets married.)

The reason why I say that is because 3 Idiots, Sholay, Jodha Akbar, Chandramukhi, Padayappa and Taare Zameen Par are one of the few Indian movies that actually did something different. THEY WERE INTELLIGENT. (Okay, Chandramukhi had major flaws but it was nice seeing a Tamil horror film that one, didn't have to go all Kali (she's a Hindu Goddess) on our asses and two, used Psychology to actually explain some of the behavior presented in the film).

Kaho naa Pyaar Hai, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Dil To Pagal Hai were very predictable love stories but at least the passion and effort was there (and I'll admit, the songs were fun). But the rest of them.......

And I don't like Salman Khan.

However legendary, he can't act, nor can he dance and is just there as a pretty face. Whenever people talk about him, it's always about how hot he is or something like that. Rajinikanth is overrated. Again, however legendary, he's just an overall okay actor (He seems like a good person though). That kinda goes for most of the female actors as well. Aishwarya Rai, Jyothika, Simran (dude, this woman can actually dance XD), Kamal Hassan and Amir Khan are one of the few Indian actors that I respect on an acting level, as well as on a morality level.

A little off topic, but let's dive into Tamil shows, as they are the ones that I have watched and cannot wait to rip them apart. Yeah, THEY ARE BLAND AS EFF! Like this one show, Office. (Yeah, there's an Indian version of it.)

Yeah, I hate it.

Why? Because its a stupid, stupid, stupid, love story. It drags on for too long, it's over the top, probably a rehash of something else in Kollywood and the comic relief....I swear to God, the comic relief is OBNOXIOUS. The jokes are lame, this one guy laughs like Spongebob (and I don't mean that as a compliment), the leads are a bore and honestly, for once, even my own parents are calling out on its' over the top drama. Like it is that predictable.

(EDIT: OFFICE ENDED A WHILE AGO APPARENTLY. THANK YOU GOD)

The reality TV and talk shows are okay at best but the serials are just stupid. Vani Rani is one pure example of WTF?! To its credit thought, the actors are actually trying. What I truly blame for the majority of the serials (including Office), is the writing.

Like if you watch majority of the serials on Vijay TV, they often have the exact same plotline of two people falling in love through an arranged marriage. You would think something like that would last only one season max, right?

Most of them are pretty much past the plotline of "falling in love during arranged marriage" and now dealing with other problems/life issues/having kids, ect. AND I WOULDN'T MIND IT IF THEY WERE DONE RIGHT. MAJORITY OF THEM SUFFER FROM "SLICE OF LIFE" SYNDROME AND THEY AREN'T EVEN DONE IN A INTERESTING WAY.

So, um.....I don't hate Bollywood or Kollywood.....for the most part. Some of them are laughably bad, to be honest. And for the past two-three years, they have been trying to break the mold for new ground. But what I hate about it is that they are objectifying.....for the most part. And if you're still curious about Bollywood and Kollywood, just check out the movie titles that I mentioned in this rant. XDXDXD
