Or as I like to call this rant (at least 50 percent of it): WHY ARE THERE FANFICS OF HERMIONE WANTING REVENGE ON RON
Alternatively: Dramione fanfics. Just because I read ONE a long ass time ago, I now come across one in my recommendations at least once a day. (BTW it was Draconian. Honestly, it was far better than what I was normally expecting and im getting off track okay-)
I'm sorry, even reading the words "She wants revenge on Ron" just makes me cringe to no end
LIKE DO YOU NOT HAVE ANY OTHER PLOT POINT OTHER THAN THAT
Did I actually read these fanfics? God no, I just read the summary and pretty much went
(Yeah, that about sums it up)
I mean, if you still like that plot, go off I guess, I'm not stopping you from reading or writing it because people can and will have different creative mindsets
But at the same time its like WHY
WHY IS THIS A GODDAMN THING
Like I know Ron is prone to doing something stupid regarding his relationship with Hermione (and Half-Blood Prince is a prime example of that honestly) but....wasn't Ron supposed to have grown up from that point by the end of the series?
Like it just seems like a huge step backwards in character development for the both of them
I don't know tho, maybe I'm talking right out of my ass and maybe these stories actually do something different with the premise. After all, I think I've made it clear in the past that I'm not the biggest Dramione shipper, and Draconian was the sole exception to this rule.
From what I noticed, this plot primarily exists in AUs and alternate timelines, so at least people don't seem to touch the canon side of things.
Okay, but real talk tho, revenge fics in general just either a) don't make sense to me or b) revenge porn™.
Like, even years later, even after having phased myself out of the Fairy Tail fandom, the Lucy Revenge fics still irk me to this day because often times (from what I've seen at least, and this was years ago so times could've changed) these fics are often written by fans who don't like Lucy or Lissana, sometimes both on rare occasions.
How do I know this? Because Lucy and Lissana in these fics are so uncharacteristically mean-spirited (or crybabies, pick your poison) and OOC that for me at least, it changes the tone of the series completely. I guess it's fine if you were to write these characters like that in a AU setting but a large majority of these fics are set in the OG universe, and even as a possible parody, the actions of all the characters in those fics just don't fit the series that they were taken from to begin with.
Edit (02-12-23): I feel like this is obvious, but I should reiterate - OOC and character development are two different things. Something like Sakura Kinomoto slowly growing from a optimistic, cherry girl to a battle-hardened soul (while still retaining her kindness) is called character development. Lissana Strauss being a complete bitch right from the get-go is NOT character development, and quite frankly, is kinda trite at this point in time for a Nalu fic.
Fanfiction to some degree has a problem of characters not acting like they are supposed to in the universes they are written in. Don't get me wrong, it is a very creative medium, but you also have to realize some of the limitations of the world that you are writing canon characters in because their actions and motivations have to fit the world that they are inhabiting. It doesn't matter if the fics are set in an AU or the OG universe, the same rule applies for the both of them and everything the characters say and do have to match the specific universe, especially when intentionally writing OOC.
Getting back on track, I think that romantic revenge fics are poison but don't let me stop you from writing them 😂
Yeah, this rant is kinda all over the place. Oh well. I'm finally back on Wattpad (for god knows how long before the real world decides to time to sweep me back up into adulthood and other responsibilities)
Have a nice summer everyone!!! Hope it's been treating you well! Sayonara till next time :)
