In the previous rants, I mentioned that the cartoons with religious undertones are another bag I didn't want to open in that context and honestly, the main reason why is because I decided to save it for this rant.
But also some of the cartoons in India in general.....
First of all, if you think Christian religious cartoons are overly preach....you haven't seen religious cartoons in India.
.....Okay, I'm exaggerating. They aren't that bad. But every single show that tries to be competent (yes, even Chotta Bheem surprisingly...in its earlier stages) has some sort of religious figure or reference.
There's a show that plays on Cartoon Network India called Roll No.21. I know, its a strange name for the show. Especially when you feel like its an inside joke that you don't understand (anyone who watches the show can anyone tell me whether its relevant to the show or not??) and......the show is and I quote: "A modern take on Krishna and Kansa's rivalry. In this version, Kansa has reincarnated as Principal Kanishk, the principal of Anath Ashram where he is making evil plans to take over the world. Krishna has reincarnated as Kris, a student at Kanishk's school."
Now, I have seen a couple of episodes of this show. While I've heard that this is legitimately a decent show, it didn't grab me as much and plus, it's a pretty cliche plot tbh and the animation is kind of low-budget. But maybe what turned me off from actually enjoying this show was the Tamil dubbing. Ugh why do Tamil dubs ruin everything ;;;;;
Just a little bit of a background before I get to the other stuff: Krishna is the name of an Indian Deity and an incredibly major one. He's known as the god of love, compassion and tenderness and there's even an entire day dedicated to celebrating his birthday called Krishna Jayanti (in South India that is, the other regions have a slightly different name) where we dress up kids in cute Krishna costumes (trust me, its a tradition. My parents have pics of me as a kid in a Krishna costume ahahahha) and paint the entire house floor in white footprints. And leaving offerings to Krishna at a temple nearby but lets be honest, we all enjoy painting the house with footprints from the front door to the prayer room and seeing kids in the Krishna get up. And he's a major character in the Indian epic, Mahabharata.
