Sailor Moon (For Reals)

As you know, last rant, I compared Sailor Moon and another one of my favorite anime/manga of all time, Cardcaptor Sakura. But now, let's just talk about Sailor Moon itself. Not as something nostalgic, not comparing to other Shoujo anime, but the series and how it works as a whole. Also, that pic of Uranus is probably my favorite expression of hers in the anime.

And since we're just going to talk about the series itself, may I just say: A) WHY DOES THE ANIME HATE MAMORU SO MUCH, B) I'm kinda pissed at the way the anime ended and C) Also, kinda pissed at how they changed almost everything in the anime. Like, they still had the same concept, plot wise. But GAHHHHHHH YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN BY THIS

Anyway, I don't think I need to explain the plot of Sailor Moon (or Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon) as most of you have grown up with it. You all ship Mamoru with Usagi, don't deny it. It's like our childhood OTP for crying out loud.

But the big question that everyone has with this series: Does it stand the test of time?

The answer to that is: The manga does, the anime doesn't. Well, as an adaptation of the manga, not really.

The anime is actually a very loose adaptation of the manga, which explains why the manga gets to the point quicker than the freaking 1990 anime, which is kinda repetitive and gets boring quick. But I got through them by skipping through those repetitive sequences so...yeah. XD The anime adaptation stands on its own as a stand alone series but as an adaptation of the original source material? I've seen better stuff *cough* Black Butler: Book of Circus *cough*

Also, as I mentioned earlier, I'm pissed at how the anime ended. Why? In the manga, USAGI AND MAMORU GET FREAKING MARRIED. I REPEAT, THEY GET MARRIED AT THE END OF THE ENTIRE SERIES.

In the anime though? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....Oh, see for yourself on how it ends.

Also, reading the manga, I realized something: Haruka and Michiru are way less serious and...bitchy, if I may, in the manga than they were in the anime. Like in the Stars Arc (the final arc) of the manga, at the beginning, Michiru actually laughs as she finds high school life amusing and she makes heart eyes. Yes, my loyal readers, she makes HEART EYES. Go read the manga if you don't believe me. It just made the two a little more relatable than the anime.

So, let me get this straight, Haruka and Michiru in the anime: You want to protect the planet, save the earth and by doing that, you're going to take Usagi's transformation brooch because you think that she'll get in the way?! *sighs* Guys, there's being logical and then there's BEING A STRAIGHT UP BEYOTCH.

*ahem* moving on.....

I mentioned in the previous rant that I heard that Chibiusa matures quiet significantly than her anime version did. And boy, were they right. Not only did she seem to grow in the manga, she was WAY less annoying than she was in the anime.

Also, Sailor Saturn. OH MY GOD. Hotaru, why does the anime like to sideline characters like you? In the Dream arc of the manga, she played a major part in helping Sailor Chibi-Moon save the freaking world. In the anime (SuperS season), SHE HARDLY PLAYED A ROLE, INSTEAD APPEARING IN THE FIRST FEW FILLER EPISODES OF SAILOR STARS. Of course, she did play her part in season 3 (Sailor Moon S) but why anime why.

There are a ton of differences between the anime and the manga that I'm just not going to go into because one, I don't want to spoil anything else and B) I'm lazy as hell, you know that. XD But I will still note that Mamoru actually got a power upgrade in the manga. I won't say anymore than that but come on, anime. In the words of Robyn from Anime America on YouTube: "Why does the anime hate you so much?!"

That being said though, despite the gripes I have with the anime adaptation, I still enjoy it. It was still fun to watch and it was seriously fun to watch Usagi grow from a whiny brat and a crybaby and mature into a strong-willed woman/heroine, which will happen whether you read the manga or watch the anime, its just that the anime will take a bit longer than the manga due to the amount of filler episodes.

And on that note, if any of you want to watch Cardcaptor Sakura, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, IF YOU ARE GOING TO WATCH THAT ANIME, PLEASE WATCH THE JAPANESE VERSION. I CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH. LIKE SERIOUSLY, I'M DOING YOU A HUGE FAVOR BY TELLING YOU TO AVOID THE DUB LIKE ITS THE EFFING PLAGUE.

Btw, I may give SM Crystal a chance. Like have you seen the art for season 3?!
