That entire week, Nova held the letter gently in her hands, trying to contain her thumbs from crushing the little bumps of braille words, as it then wouldn't be readable anymore. She sat there, on the grass in the middle of the Glade, in her thinking spot she'd claimed a month prior. Thinking of things, thinking of why the Maze was a thing, why this was happening to all of them including her. She'd been there for only a month, and she was already trying to figure it out. Which was pointless, as she was still clueless of half the things that went on around the place. But as said before, she had been getting used to it for the past few weeks, to the point where, she'd accepted it relatively.
She had almost nothing to do, she'd already shown Minho how fast she was, so she was waiting for anything else that he'd had to offer. Not to say he was surprised, but he was merely impressed, which was in a way, rare. And Nova had hit the gold ticket with that spot, close to it at least. It was going to be a close call, but Minho needed some more testing and practice, just in case. For more proof.
While relaxing in her thinking spot, she heard footsteps slowly walk towards her from behind, but she didn't recognize these pair of feet, it was different from all the other Gladers she knew. It must be the Greenie, she thought.
"Hello?" The soft voice of an unfamiliar male, sounded in her ear drums.
Yup, it's the Newbie. She thought, once more.
"H-"Nova paused, remembering what Minho had tried to teach her, a day earlier. "Hey, Greenie..." She wasn't sure on the slang, she was still learning more about it.
"Why does everyone keep calling me that?" He questioned.
"Trust me, you're not the only one." Nova chuckled. "I've been there – I'm still in there."
"Oh," The boy said. "how long have you been here then?"
"So far?" She didn't bother to look at him. "A month and a half."
"Wow," The boy let out a light breath chuckled, a little bit shocked.
Nova nodded, "So, what's the name?" She asked. She knew his name, as Minho had told her, but she wanted to hear it for herself.
"D-David." The boy - also known as David - stuttered.
Still sounds familiar, she thought.
Nova started giggling. "What?" David asked. "What's so funny?"
"Nothing, nothing," She shook her head, hiding a small grin. "Just the fact that; I was the same exact way when I got here, that's all."
"What do you mean?" He wondered.
"Stuttered." She smiled now.
David just merely nodded, didn't speak what so ever. "Aren't you going to say something?" Nova questioned.
"Like what?" David raised an eyebrow. "What do you want me to say?"
Nova shrugged, like it didn't even matter anymore. "What about you? Do you have a name?"
She blinked, her broken eyes getting dry, "It's Nova."
David's eyebrow's furrowed, as he started to think. Feeling like he's heard that name, somewhere in his past life before. But not being exactly sure where he heard it from. He shook the thought away, as he came back to reality.
David nodded, bringing out his hand to her, although Nova never took it, this got David confused. He retracted his hand to his side, and tried again, this time, with his other hand. Again, Nova didn't take it.
David cleared his throat, "Hm?" Nova hummed. This caused her to become curious, on what the boy wanted.
"I, uh," David muttered, but stopped himself from speaking any further. Instead, he studied her eyes, they seemed different from all the others.
Nova's eyes had no color, her eyes were pure blank, white, and full of nothing. David found it strange, yet interesting at the same time. Unique, maybe. Nova had white eyes with a hint of clear, and blonde hair. Hair that was so blonde, it almost seemed platinum. She was very pale, as well.
Despite her dead-like-features, David found her beautiful, in a way. She was different. Although, he couldn't remember if he knew any other female's in his past life, but for some reason, he felt that there was something about Nova, that felt, very different. He also felt as if he knew her, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.
David brought his left hand in front of Nova's face, and waved. Nova didn't respond, she didn't even blink, not one bit. That's when he knew, there was definitely something wrong with her. She wasn't like the others, as far as he has seen, at least.
"What're you doing?" Nova asked, with a small smile and a tilted head.
David brought his hand back quickly, "Y-You're-" He was cut off.
"I know," She kept her smile. "I can't see."
"How?" David wondered.
Nova shrugged, "I don't know, I came up in the Box like this."
David shook his head, "No, how did you know what I was doing?" He looked at his left hand, and then back at her.
"I can't see anything or anyone, but, I can sense vibrations. They tingle my brainwaves, telling me that something is in front of me." Nova explained. Adding, "That's how I'm able to see my surroundings, hands and feet."
"Oh," David nodded.
"Also, your pinkie touched my nose, lightly." Nova grinned.
"Oh," David repeated, this time he laughed, and looked at the ground.
Nova joined in on his laughter, she quite liked his personality. She could see them becoming good friends.
Although, he still seemed familiar to her. Nova still couldn't put her mind to it, but, she was sure to find out sooner or later.
