lost love

{cliché: a phrase or opinion that is overused and betrays a lack of original thought}

I watched as you left
ignoring my cries of despair and grief
pleading you to stay.
you didn't care,
and that's when I realised
you never did.

if you really cared,
why was I left by myself
heartbroken and lonely?
if you really cared,
why did you never talk to me again
or apologise?

no.
it was never about me.
you didn't mean any of it
when you complimented me
or took me out to dinner.
those words that once made smile,
now bring nothing more than disgust and sorrow.

after a while,
seeing my flaws and imperfections,
my weaknesses and clingy personality,
you decided
that you deserved better.

that day,
I lost a person who I loved but didn't love me back,
and you lost a person
who loved you.
who was better off in the end?
