he watches her; writing in her pretty journal,
peering over her curved shoulders, observing her deft, messy handwriting
all he can make out of it is the words blame society
and he could not help but stare at the girl with a frown
she realises he's staring at her with such intent
shutting the book so he can see his reflection on the silver cover
and glances back at him with a steely stare,
silencing the words that were about to tumble from his mouth.
she stands up, brushing off her skirt
but before she could walk away, he stands up too;
lacing their fingers together so delicately that she turns around
'what do you want?' she asks as she pulls their hands apart.
'if you want to blame society, you should blame yourself.'
his dark eyes bore into her ones, a glint of anger visible.
'why?' she asks, not wanting to break eye contact,
making both of their palms sweat with the high tension.
'because we are society.'
he holds her hand for a split second, before dropping it and walking away, leaving her only to stare at her hand; which felt like it had been electrocuted.
