Complete Lockdown

"You must be quite along, I can see your bump," Ben pointed out with a smile. He ran his hand down Cassie's stomach, then gave her a smooch. "I really wish I could be there with you today. I really want to know how they're doing."

Cassie laced her fingers together around the back of his neck and said, "It's fine. We will be fine. Besides, Anna is coming with me. That is, if she can haul her eight month pregnant ass down here. Roger says she just cancels plans with everybody nowadays."

Ben chuckled, "Can you blame her? She's about ready to pop. I suspect you'll be doing the same thing in a few months." He smiled at the thought, making her laugh. "Okay, go or you'll miss your flight," she told him. "I love you."

He placed a sounding kiss on her lips and said, "I love you, too. Daddy loves you, too, little one." He bent down and kissed her stomach, before giving Cassie just one more kiss. As soon as he left, she started getting ready for her appointment. 

After getting out of the shower, she got a text from Anna...she cancelled on her. Cassie rolled her eyes with a smile and shook her head. She told Anna she'd stop by after the appointment to check on her. 

As she was standing in front of the mirror with her shirt off, she noticed the bump Ben was talking about. It was a tiny swell, but just enough to make her smile. She never saw herself as a mom, not until she met Ben. Also, not until he got her pregnant. Still, she was actually excited!

With a smile on her face, she drove to the doctor's office. They took her back almost right away and got her situated on the table. "Hi, Cassie," her doctor, Doctor Monroe, said as she walked in. "Hey, Janet," Cassie greeted. 

"What do we have here today?" Janet asked. "A baby, huh?" Cassie smiled widely as she said, "Well, I would hope so or I seriously need to go to the gym." Janet laughed as she set up the machine. "This will be cold, but it should warm up in a few seconds," she said as she took out the gel. 

She put it on Cassie's stomach, then moved the wand around. "Mind if I ask where the father is?" She asked as they watched the screen. Cassie told her, "On his way to Miami. He really wanted to be here. It broke my heart seeing him so upset about it last night."

Janet switched and turned some nobs as she said, "If it's any consolation, my husband wasn't even there for the birth of our first. He was at a friend's bachelor party in Vegas." Cassie scoffed, "No. Seriously? I would never let Ben go anymore than a mile if I was that close."

Both women laughed, but Janet was now very focused on the screen. "Oh no," she sadly sighed. Cassie looked at her curiously and asked, "What? What's wrong? Is there anything in there?" Janet let out a heavy sigh and took the wand away. 

"Cassie...I'm sorry," she said. Cassie's demeanor completely changed. Her body was shaking and her palms felt sweaty. "Wha...what?" She asked. "Sorry...sorry for what? My baby, it's in there, right? I'm pregnant?"

Janet gave her a sympathetic look and said, "Yes...you were." Cassie put her hand over her stomach and looked down. "But...but there's a bump," she said with tears in her eyes. Janet took her hand and told her, "That's because it most likely happened sometime in the past couple of days. These things happen, hun. It's not uncommon, you can't blame yourself."

Cassie started to sit up as Janet continued, "You can try again in a few months." Cassie ignored her and just walked out of the room. She continued to walk, head down, ignoring anyone and everyone in her way. The moment she got into her car, she drove aimlessly home. 

It was when she got there that it all hit at once. 

She started sobbing into her hands as she leaned against a wall and slid to the floor. This can't be happening, she thought to herself. I actually wanted this baby. Why did this happen? She continued to cry into her hands so much that she felt a headache coming on.
