She smiled every time his name and goofy picture popped up on her screen. She was in the middle of teaching a class, but she really wanted to answer. Unfortunately, she opted to ignore it and continued teaching.
Today was a little abnormal than all the other days because she was being watched. Yes, watched. Observed. And she hated it. This was always the worst part of the court order, but she dealt with it as best she could.
She taught her fifth graders about fractions, mixed numbers, and decimals. They hated it, but with her teaching, she made it a little more bearable. Just as she was getting into adding and subtracting fractions, the bell rang.
"Alright you guys, I'll see you tomorrow!" She called as they all filed out of the room. Cassie sighed, then started to pack up her thing when her phone started ringing. She smiled and answered, "Yes, Ben?"
"You've been ignoring my calls," he said, pretending to sound hurt. "I was afraid I had done something wrong." She chuckled, then said, "No, I was in the middle of a class. Believe me, I wanted to answer. I miss you." She always felt weird saying it.
He laughed a little and said, "I miss you, too. Actually, I have a surprise for you." She furrowed her eyebrows and asked, "Oh yeah? And what's that?" Suddenly, a deep voice said at her door, "Surprise!" She yelped and dropped her phone as she spun towards Ben, who was standing there with a wide grin.
"Ben," she breathed. "Jesus, you scared the hell out of me!" He laughed and quickly went up to her. They hugged each other, as she said, "I thought you weren't home until Saturday." He brought his head around to look at her and said, "Got sent home today. Thought I'd surprise you."
She laughed, "Well, you definitely achieved that! Come here." He hummed as she brought his head down for a long kiss. When he broke it, he looked to her desk, then asked, "Have you ever done it on your desk?"
She playfully rolled her eyes, then said, "No. And today wouldn't be a good day for that, anyways. Actually, this isn't the best day for...anything, really." He quirked an eyebrow and asked, "Why not?" Just as she was about to answer, someone cleared their throat at the door.
They both turned and all Ben saw was a tall, handsome guy walking inside the classroom. "Who in the hell are you?" Ben defensively asked. Cassie put her hand on his chest and said, "Ben, this is my social worker Jayden. Jay, this is my boyfriend Ben."
Both men were staring at each other. Ben stuck his hand out and said, "Pleasure." Jay shook it and said sarcastically, "Oh, the pleasure's all mine, really." This was the person who has been watching and observing her all day. He sits at a desk in the corner all day and writes things down, he just happened to be in the bathroom when Ben arrived.
He was also one of Cassie's ex's from High School. She had a lot of them and this guy just so happened to be the most heart broken after she dumped him. He was infatuated with her. Unfortunately, he was a little too smart. Cassie has tried to get reassigned to another social worker because of their past, but there was no reason the agency could find that would put them in an odd position.
They were idiots, apparently because ever situation they were in was odd.
"Well," Ben said, turning back to Cassie, "I was hoping to take you out for lunch, but I see that's out of the question." She gave him an apologetic look. "I'm sorry," she said. "I'll be free for dinner, though. It's a full moon tonight."
His eyes lit up. "It is, isn't it?" He asked. "I'll pack us up something to eat, grab some candles and I'll pick you up, let's say...eight?" She smiled and told him, "That sounds wonderful. I can't wait." He chuckled, "I can't, either. I'll call you for food preferences in a bit, yeah?"
