It's a few weeks later and Brandon's finally out of the hospital. I've been trying to get get my mind off Liam, but everything seems to remind me of him. It's like everywhere I look, he's there.
I walk to my class with my books clutched to my chest. Sitting down in my usual seat at the back of the class, I see an unfimiliar girl walk through the door. Our teacher leads her to an open chair. The girl says nothing and doesn't even smile up at him as he wishes her a good first day.
The girl is different than the rest of the girls at Anchor Beach. She has long hair that is died a dark shade of purple. She's not tall, but not short either. She wears dark blue skinny jeans, dirty black and white converse, and an all black zip-up hoodie with a dark purple tank top underneath that matches her hair. She has on black glasses and some freckles dot her face. Her skin is extermely pale, especially next to her dark outfit.
She reminds me of... Me. When I was the quiet one. When I was the girl who never raised her hand. The girl who just sat there and frowned all day. Who wore all black everyday, and slouched over her desk, learning nothing because she wasn't paying attention. When I was the one that everyone looked at funny and laughed at. She reminds me of the girl I was before I met Brandon; the girl that cut her wrists.
The hour slowly comes to an end and the bell dismisses us to lunch. I try to catch up to the girl with the purple hair, but she turns a corner and disapears into the crowd of students. I nearly run outside to the lunch tables, eager to find the girl with the purple hair. I give up when Brandon comes up from behind me and kisses my cheek.
"Hey B," I say with a smile. Instead of saying hi back, he kisses my lips, not having to hide anymore considering Lena already knows about us. And so does everyone else in the school....
We sit at the table we always do, Mariana sitting across from me and Jesus across from Brandon as always. I'm really focused on finding the girl though. She doesn't seem to be anywhere in sight; her dark outfit would stick out considering everyone else wears bright, colorful clothes.
Lunch ends and I haven't seen the girl anywhere. Fourth hour ends, still haven't seen her. Fifth hour comes and goes. I walk to the bathroom to fix my hair, well, actually I'm hoping she'll be there.
I see a few snoty girl from the cheer team putting bows in their hair. There's a petite brunette that walks quickly out of the bathroom right after I walk in. Th cheer girls look me up and down, making me feel uncomfortable, and walk out laughing. At me.
I stand in front of the mirror in silence for a few seconds, staring at my reflection. I see a stall door open in the mirror and watch a girl with purple hair step out, looking at the ground.
"Oh, I didn't know anyone else was in here," she stutters when she sees me. Her voice is soft, but high pitched. She pulls at her sleeves but not soon enough. I see the bright red marks and I know what to do.
