Aaron, Cameron, and I all were seated in front of an old man - around his forty's - who's face was red as a tomato of how mad he was. Maybe when he saw the we didn't care made him even more mad. Cameron just had this wonderful idea to sneak into a middle school and trash the place, apparently it was his old middle school and well he didn't really like it there. The only thing us geniuses forgot to do was keep a look out, so yes we got caught, by the school's principle. But honestly how much can a middle school principle do to three high school seniors?
The man finally close his eyes and was taking deep breaths trying to calm himself down. "I should call the police," the man started opening his eyes. "But seeing Cameron is sitting in front of me once again I won't." I smiled of the thought of 13 year old Cameron sitting in the same seats we were sitting right now. "All I would do is contact your high school principle and let him punish you, but I do expect all of you to clean up this mess you guys created," he glared at us and shoo us away.
We got up, but before we left Cameron did not forget to say "nice to see you again Mr. Dick." After we shut the door of his office all of us laughed.
"We're not really cleaning up are we?" I asked still smiling. The guys shook their heads as they started walking to the exit, it felt nice seeing them talk and laugh as they were best friends but you could still feel the tension between them.
I was about to say something but we heard yelling in the back and we ran. When we were far enough of the school we all laughed again and I completely forgot about mentioning the tension.
"Now what?" I asked the boys who finally calmed down.
"I owe you an ice cream, how about we go get that now?" Aaron asked and I remembered about the bet we made. I was about to say yes but Cameron cut in.
"Ice cream?" he asked.
"A bet we made," I respond with a shrug.
"Can I come?"
"N-" Aaron was about to say but before he could I told Cameron yes. I didn't know why Aaron wouldn't want Cameron to come along and I didn't care, he shouldn't be that rude. I notice Aaron sigh and roll his eyes when I said yes while Cameron smiled widely.
***
"Welcome to Shirls, what kind of ice cream do you want?" a young girl, around her twenties, smiled at us.
"Vanilla," me and Aaron said at the same time. I looked at him and smiled, but he just stared at me and looked in a deep thought but manage to smile at me too.
"And strawberry," Cameron replied taking out his wallet.
Aaron took out his too and paid for mine while Cameron paid for his. We all sat in a small table shape as a circle and waited for our ice cream. We chatted for a while and when they called out ice creams Cameron got up to get them.
"I can't believe you invited him," Aaron whispered to me.
"Why wouldn't I?"
Aaron didn't respond, I'm not sure if it was because he didn't want me to know the answer or because Cameron came.
"Vanilla ice cream is disgusting," Cameron said putting the cups down in the table.
"Way better than strawberry though," I said and Cameron laughed.
"Can you guys not flirt in front of me please?" Aaron said. Cameron rolled his eyes and I just ate my ice cream.
***
Going to school the next morning was a struggle, but after twisting and turning last night with my thoughts I made it a mission to talk to Aaron about me knowing him in Dallas, and talk to Cameron about what's happening with him and Aaron because I was scared if Aaron will snap if I mention it to him.
He just seems like that kind of guy.
I didn't know who I was going to talk to first but seeing Aaron at his locker I knew it was him first.
"Hey," I said approached him.
He didn't smile at me, scratched that he didn't even look at me but still said hi.
"Is something wrong?" I asked him.
"Doesn't matter, do you need anything?" he finally looked at me and not to mention very angry.
"What did you mean the other day in the alley by 'yes'?" I asked him.
"Amanda, yes means a lot of things and I don't want to waste my time by explaining to you all of it, why don't you just forget that I said anything, I mean you don't even remember we knew each other before."
I knew it.
"We knew each other?" I still asked shock. His eyes got wide as he realize what he just said. "Just forget it Amanda," and then he slammed his locker and left.
What just happened?
