Jack's pov
I woke up to the sound of people coming in the room.
Two figures were standing by my bed. I recognized the man named McCoy but the other one I didn't remember.

"Hello Jack! How are you feeling?" The other man said.

"Dizzy, who am I speaking to?" I looked at him weary.

His brows furrowed "Jack what's the last thing you remember?"

"I...ahm...I got an offer for a job in New York. I was going to accept it. You know a Texas ranger like me working in the big city...but ah I...I don't
know anything else. It's like I have a blank dot there..do you know?"

"Son, you were in a coma for a while. You were almost killed in an investigation that you went on your own. It's a miracle that you are alive." McCoy said hastily.

"This is Captain Conrad Jefferson, you worked for him. Indeed you took the job to New York. And you did a fine job. What we don't know is what happened in your investigation and we are trying to find out."

I was dumbstruck I went alone? In an investigation for what?

"What was it all about?"

"Son. I think you should rest and get back on your feet. We called your family, your brother will come shortly. Maybe it's for the best you take some time off from all of this. Go home for a while, if you remember something give us a call." The captain was stern.

"I can leave?" That was unexpected

"Yes we can arrange so you can go home tomorrow." McCoy smiled, but it dis not reach his eyes. Something was not right here.

"I understand. Thank you for the visit." I took the glass of water from the counter and gulped it down.

They nodded and left.

My brother came and picked me up. I was happy to get out of the hospital and go home. It's been a while.

I was looking back at New York from the car, there was a feeling that I'll leave much more than a city. But what did I leave?

Good bye New York, maybe I'll see you again.
