"You didn't know?"
Julie's vision turns blurry. She can't focus on their faces. She can barely take in the wolves around them. All she feels is Dresden's hands on her waist, his body pressed against her and she feels burned.
What's wrong with you?
The way he studied her in the restaurant when she first came here comes to mind. She shivers as she remembers how scared she was. He had her trapped.
He's very protective of his kin. This is his way of staying close to you, making sure you stay unharmed and letting you learn to trust him. He doesn't trust easily but there are some people he's more opened to than others. Understand?
Even Jack tried to tell her.
You're safest here.
How could she have not known?
Especially with Alphas, right? They're super possessive about their mates. I bet our Alpha will kill every single partner.
Well, I'm sure you'll find him sooner than you think.
Lea even tried to drop a hint. She's making her way here.
No, she's not pretty. She's really weak right now. It's frustrating.
He was talking about her the whole time. Every moment they had, every encounter, he was looking at her seeing her as weak and ugly. And while he viewed her as such, she ventured the edge. She struggled to come to terms that he had a mate and she wasn't worth his time, that he's her Alpha and she's nothing. Yet, he still caused those tense moments. He leaned towards her. He drew her in. He teased her.
Now, I'll have to lock you in my room again.
She remembers the feeling of his lips on her neck when he first claimed her as part of his pack. She remembers the feeling of them against her palm and now, she has the feeling of his tongue against her skin stained into her memory. There were so many moments of intimacy, so many chances and he still didn't tell her.
You belong to me!
The whole time, it was all right there in her face and she was the only one who didn't know. He touched her gently after James hit her. He kept her to himself, trapping her in his room. He forced her to rest and heal even when she felt perfectly fine. He demanded she call him by his name instead of his title. He assigned her guards to look after her. He chased her when she ran after her wolf. He listened to her speak in her sleep.
She can feel the sensation of his finger against her lips all over again. The way he smirked at her that night makes her heart pound. He even told her his mother would've liked her! He knew this entire time and she had no clue!
Why didn't he tell her? He could've rejected her. He could've told her anyway and she would have been fine with the rejection. It's not like she has much going on her for anyway! She would have easily accepted it then but now she's invested. Now, she's attached and it's so much harder.
She let herself feel secure with him. She told him her secrets, let him in. She actually trusted him and he still didn't tell her. She even dreamt of what it might be like to be his mate. She fought the jealousy that rose up every time she remembered he had one. She fought the urges to lean closer, to fall into the moment and let her urges control her every time she fell victim to his spell. She held it all back because he is her Alpha and he has a mate. She can even swear that she made a wish about it.
And now, his touch makes her skin feel like fire and she fights to break free from his arms.
"Julie..."
