chapter forty four

Kai'lani I. Brown

I was finally getting a chance to go back to work today. I haven't been for a while and it was the only thing I really wanted to do. I pulled into the parking lot of Sorella and turned off my G wagon. I grabbed my purse and got out. I walked inside of the building and was automatically greeted with hugs.

"Welcome back." Heather greeted. I smiled and hugged her. I felt good to be back at work.

"Zoe's here." She told me. I smiled and walked to the back to see Trell holding her.

"Give me my baby." I told him. He smacked his lips and handed Zoe to me. I smiled and kissed her cheek.

"Hey Zozo," I cooed as I bounced up and down. She babbled and smiled at me.

"Y'all always taking my baby from me." Trell stated as he took a seat on the counter.

"You're ok. You get to go home with her. Don't act like you don't be taking Leilani from."

"Whatever, where is she anyway?" I inquired.

"With my mom." I told him before walking to the meeting where everyone is. I took a seat and Heather took Zoe from me.

"Was there any luck finding a spot in Atlanta?" I inquired.

"We found four possible spots."

"Kai and I will make arrangements to be out in Atlanta later this week to take a look at these spots." Heather stated.

"Once we do, we'll start to contact resources down there." I added. Everyone nodded and heard my phone vibrate.

"Excuse me for one seconds," I excused myself from the meeting and seen it was my mom.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Do you pack Leilani a bottle?" She inquired.

"Yes I did, it should be on the side." I told her.

"It isn't dear." She told me. I thought to myself and remember it fell out and was laying on the floorboard of the backseat.

"I'll be right over with it." I told her before hanging up. I walked back into the room and grabbed my purse.

"I have to go. Something popped up with Leilani but I will see you later on this week for the flight." I told Heather. She got up from her chair and gave me a hug.

"Give her a kiss for me."

"Do the same for Zoe." I told her before walking out of the room.

thirty minutes later

I had Leilani and we were on the way home. I needed to find out a way to tell Chris that I was going to Atlanta for two weeks. I didn't feel like going but I need to get back into the notion of work and not being around the kids as much. I pulled up the driveway and parked beside Chris's Lamborghini. I got out of the car and opened the backdoor. I grabbed Leilani from her car seat and got her bag from the floorboard. I closed the door and walked up to the door. I opened the door and was greeted to the smell of food.

"Chris." I called out.

"I'm in the kitchen." He told me. I closed the door and walked into the kitchen. He was cooking grilled chicken with jambalaya. He stepped away from the stove and kissed both Lani and I's cheek.

"I'm almost done, how was work? I thought you were going to be gone for another two hours?" He inquired.

"Well Lani's bottle was on the floorboard and my mom told me so I was about finished with a meeting anyway so I picked her up and came home." I told him.

"Why did you tell me? I could have ran a bottle over there?" He inquired.

"I don't know but we have to discuss something." I told him. I sat on the counter. He turned around and took in between my legs. He took Leilani and cradled her in his arms.

"Heather and I have to fly down to Atlanta for two weeks on business."

"Lani did you forget that I have to go out of town for the two weeks too?"

"What's the problem? They can stay with my mom or your mom."

He sighed, "I don't want you going to Atlanta."

"Look if it's about my pregnancy, I flew when I was six months. You get to go any and everywhere while I'm here taking care of the girls. This is business Chris, damn I just want to help Heather accomplish her dream." I told him. He was starting to make me mad.

"Whatever Kai." He rolled his eyes. He handed Leilani back to me before turning around and tended to the food. I got down from the counter and walked out of the kitchen. I walked upstairs to the bedroom. I walked inside and sat down on the bed. I sat Lani on the bed in between my legs and sighed. I don't understand the big deal about it. He's always going places but when I have to do something for work, he trips.

I watched him walk into the closet and close the door behind himself. I got up from the bed and walked across the hallway to the nursery. I laid Leilani in her crib and turned on the baby monitor. I walked out and closed the door behind myself. I walked into the room to see him fully dressed.

"Where are you going?" I inquired.

"To work Kai'lani." He stated blandly. He started to walk but I got in his way.

"Work? Nigga you were already at the studio and you're going back? Something's up."

"Ain't nothing up Kai, damn."

"Then why are you going back to the studio? You going to meet some bitches?" I inquired. He didn't say anything. I pushed back him and went over to the nightstand. I snatched his phone of the charger and slid to the lock screen. I unlocked his phone and went to his message. It was all looking fine till' I got to him and a girl named Jessica's messages.

"You can't wait to see her? You can wait to see that punani?" I inquired.

I started to laugh, "I just find it funny how you think I'm stupid. Do I have it on my forehead? Is it taped to my back? This two week trip is to see her isn't it?" I inquired before going back to their conversation which dated back to when I was around seven months pregnant. I just continually nodded my head, I didn't know how to act. I was one second away from lighting this house up. I pitched his phone at the wall and made my way into his closet. I grabbed all his stuff of the hangers. I felt his arms going around my waist.

"Don't fucking touch me, I'm disgusted." I told him before snatching out of his grip.

"We haven't been married for a year and you're already cheating. What type of shit is that?" I inquired. This is the calmest and maddest I've ever felt. Have you ever been so mad that you're calm? That's how I am right now. I walked into my closet and opened my suitcases. I began to throw clothes into them.

"Kai what are you doing?" He inquired as he grabbed my bags from the counter.

"Oh I'm leaving so you and your little bitch can play house." I told him as I grabbed my bags back and continued on packing.

"Kai you're not going anywhere."

"I think I am, I'm not being here with your cheatin' ass." I told as I zipped up my bags. I took off my ring and threw it at his face.

"Since it doesn't mean shit to you." I told him as I walked out of the room with my bags. I walked into the nursery and walked into Lani's closet. I opened one of my bags and threw some of things into it. I zipped it back up and walked over to her crib. I picked her up and sat her on my hip. I grabbed a few toys and her bag before leaving the room.

"Kai, you not taking her." He told me. I ignored him and walked down the stairs. I walked out of the house and to my G wagon. I opened the backdoor and laid Lani in her carseat. I secured her into the carseat and sat her bag down on the floor. I closed the door and walked back to the trunk. I opened the trunk and threw my bags in there. I closed the trunk and walked to the driver side and got in. Chris rushed out to the car but I already had the car in reverse. I pulled onto the street and sighed. Where the hell do I go from now?
