Kai'lani I. Brown

Chris and I sat in the waiting room of his therapist office. I wanted to meet the person who helped Chris get back to his normal and loving self. I feel Chris's hand move up and down my belly in a comforting motion. His right arm was draped over my shoulder and my head laid on his shoulder. It felt good being in his embrace. When we went home last night, all we did was cuddle and watch movies. It felt like Heaven.

"Christopher Brown." Someone called. Chris and I got up from the couch and walked in the direction of the woman. She gave us a smile before leading us back to a door. She opened the door and moved to the side. Chris and I walked inside of the dark but comforting office. The chair swiveled around to reveal a brownskin woman who remesabled Sanaa Lathan. She got up from the chair and walked in our direction.

"Good afternoon Chris and I presume that you are his incredibly beautiful wife, Kai'lani."

"I am and you must be Doctor Kelius."

"In the living flesh, Chris has told me wonderful things about you. Please have a seat."

I followed Chris over to the light brown loveseat. We both took a seat and Doctor Kelius took a seat in the small chair in front of us. She opened her notebook and looked up at us.

"Has Chris informed you that this meeting is for you to know what has happened in our other sessions?" She inquired.

"Yes ma'am."

"Okay then. Your husband is a wonderful man but as you know, he has a couple of flaws. Your husband has Athazagoraphobia, the fear of abandonment. Chris can you explain to Kai'lani where this first came from?"

He nodded and faced me, "Babe it first started when I was four, when my dad left. He told me he was going to get something from the store and he never came back. Over the years, it's happened time and time again to the point where I was just doing drugs and drinking all the time. It slowed down when I met you then sped up whenever first broke up. I went into a downward spiral when you left that day. All the symptoms came rushing at me; the anxiety, the nausea, and the worst one of all; depression." He explained. I found my vision being blocked by tears. I thought he was going out and partying to have fun but all along he was trying to help his fear.

"Baby why didn't you tell me?" I inquired as I took his hand into mine.

"I didn't know there was a name for it, I thought I was just being a little bitch."

"I thought you were just going out partying just to get away from being a father and husband."

"Kai, I love you and the kids. I was going out to try and cope with the things that were going through my head. When I was messing around with that girl, I was in the state of mind that nobody wanted to be there for me and that I'll always be alone." He explained. I sighed and rested my hand on his cheek. I used my thumb to caress his cheek.

"Baby I'm going to always be there for you. You have me, the kids, your mom, and many more people. You got me babe, I'm not going anywhere." I assured as I looked him in his eyes.

"There are treatments to what Chris has. Chris wasn't there something else you wanted to let her know?"

"There is, babe Karrueche went off again."

"Again? Does she want to be in Brielle's life or not?" I sighed in frustration. She always up and leaving that girl.

"That's what I'm trying to figure out, I don't want Brielle going through the same thing I'm going through." He sighed.

"Doctor? Is there anything we can do to prevent Brielle from developing Athazagoraphobia?" I inquired.

"All you can do is make sure she feels loved and that she has support. She most likely considers you as her mother so just continue being the parent Chris describes you to be, same to you Chris, you know how it feels so make sure she doesn't feel like that." Doctor Kelius assured. All I did was nod.

"You guys are a very beautiful couple and need to start communicating better. Chris, you need to tell Kai when you feel like your symptoms are coming instead of going to drink and doing drugs. She's your wife for a reason." She told him.

"I know and I'll start. You're my babygirl and I promise from this day fore, I'm going to be a better husband." He promised.
