Females don't have horns. They don't need water as often because with its strong hind legs and a long neck, they can reach their food from the higher branches. Gerenuks look at the branches before eating any tender shoots and leaves. They also eat the leaves of a acacias which is surrounded by thorns. Since the Gerenuk has weaker molars (teeth) and a digestive tract, they only eat the juiciest leaves which enables them to be independent from water. They can't afford to waste too much energy on any long distance running, seasonal travel or fighting because the lack of water, due to the dry season, when there is little rainfall. Gerenuks don't form herds, there maybe 1-5 or 15-20 of them might occur. They freeze to avoid predators. Gerenuks are a type of gazelle.
