Strange as it seems, the Woodchuck is considered the strongest, and largest of the ground squirrels. It is a great swimmer and climber. The Woodchuck, like its cousins, does hibernate during the cold months of winter. They defend their burrow by "arching its back, jumping, flicking its stiffened tail, and chattering its bared teeth." A sharp whistling is an alarm call for the Woodchuck.
